Weight room instead of Christmas break

The FK Austria Wien team has been on Christmas vacation since December 13. Meanwhile, the captain is patiently working on his comeback. Just like Muharem Huskovic.

Markus Suttner not only knows his body inside out, but he's also a consummate professional from the tips of his hair down to his little toenail. In the game against Sturm Graz, he tore his lateral abdominal muscles after a foul was called on him. Initially, he could not even niece or cough without pain, every twist in the torso area was like a knife thrust.

"It was brutal and took ten days until I could move halfway normally again," described the veteran, who also waived a break until Christmas Eve and is working hard on his comeback until December 23 in the Generali Arena together with therapists Roberto Baumgartner as well as Christian Hold.

"Thanks to our medical department for taking such good care of me instead of being on vacation themselves," says Suttner, who was able to do a few exercises on the pitch again for the first time towards the end of last week.

"All planning is geared towards him being able to rejoin the team in January during the course of preparation," says Baumgartner, who trains with the 34-year-old for four to five hours a day. "Primarily keeping fit on the ergometer and treadmill, plus the focus is on the core muscles," adds the son of Austria goalkeeper legend Hubert Baumgartner.

Also in full training is Muharem Huskovic, who is completing his rehab program in parallel with Suttner. "Muki is suffering from a muscle injury in his thigh, but he is also on schedule and should be able to return to normal training in January.

There is also news from Ziad El Sheiwi. Our youngster, who unfortunately tore his cruciate ligament in the derby, was operated on Saturday in Innsbruck by specialist Dr. Christian Fink in the presence of Austria club doctor Dr. Marcus Hofbauer. Two luminaries in teamwork, there "Zizou" is in the best hands.
