New assistant coach for Manfred Schmid

FK Austria Wien have found a new assistant coach for Manfred Schmid's team. Mark McCormick (42), most recently head coach of the U18s of the Austria academy team, joins the team immediately and is already present at the start of training.

"We have known each other for a long time and have always been in contact," explains Manfred Schmid, who was able to get his desired candidate in the Scotsman.

He had followed McCormick's development as a coach very closely. "We have the same idea of football, but he will also bring completely new aspects to our daily work. With his style, he fits very well into our team, and in addition, we are once again promoting someone from our own young talent."

Austria sporting director Manuel Ortlechner: "Mark is certainly a very good solution. He has been with us in the academy for several years and has done very good work there. We have already filled some positions with internal people in the summer, Mark has now seized the opportunity."

Mark McCormick himself says: "I'm delighted to be part of this energetic coaching staff from now on. You can tell throughout the club that there are a lot of young, hungry people at work here - it's very attractive. I'm the next one to come from our own academy, so to speak - and I know we have a lot of quality there. We are all ready to go this way, our way, and believe in it."

Before the U18s (July 2021 until now), Mark McCormick was head coach of the U16s for one season, and before that he was co-coach of the U18s - together with Cem Sekerlioglu, who is also part of Manfred Schmid's coaching team - and the U15s in our academy.

Before that, he was also head of training at AFC Sunderland and coached at clubs in Australia (Northern Tigers, Western Spirit).

Reinhold Breu left the coaching staff of FK Austria Wien at his own request at the end of December and now acts as technical director at the Football Association in Lithuania.
