Austria triumphed in Hütteldorf!

Austria deserved to win 2-1 in a thrilling derby. Goals from Muharem Husković and Dominik Fitz from the penalty spot gave Austria an early lead in a dominant first half. After the change of ends, the hosts got into the game better, but an excellent Christian Früchtl secured the away victory for the Veilchen. Ante Bajic's follow-up goal came too late. After seven draws in a row, there was once again a winner in the Vienna derby and Austria remains unbeaten at Allianz Stadium.

Marvin Martins and Andreas Gruber, who were out on Thursday against Villarreal, were back from the start in the 337th Vienna derby. Dario Kreiker and James Holland took their places on the bench. Otherwise, Manfred Schmid made no changes to the starting lineup.

Rapid had to do without Nicolas Kühn due to an ankle injury, Marco Grüll and Bernhard Zimmermann were new in the starting eleven compared to the away win against WSG Tirol.

Dream start in Hütteldorf

The game got off to a picture-perfect start, with the sold-out visitors' section at the Allianz Stadium standing on its head after just four minutes. Dominik Fitz sent a Niklas Hedl tee shot straight back into the net. Andreas Gruber set up Muharem Husković with a one-two, and this time he didn't miss the chance - 1-0 for Violett! Christian Früchtl prevented the equalizer by Ferdy Druijf with a great reflex (14th). Referee Manuel Schüttengruber correctly decided immediately on penalty, Dominik Fitz converted ice-cold to 0-2 (16th).

Austria was clearly superior to the home side in terms of speed, pressing and play, a good free kick by Fitz was cleared with difficulty by Leopold Querfeld for a corner. This resulted in a shot by Matthias Braunöder, but it went over the goal (25th). After a long pass from Lukas Mühl, Husković appeared in front of Hedl, but got behind and shot over the goal (41st). Just a minute a similar situation: Manfred Fischer sent Andi Gruber, this time Hedl in the Rapids goal could prevent further purple goal (42nd). Austria went into the dressing room with a two-goal lead.

Husković had the chance to make it 3-0 after a pass from Fitz, but Koscelník intervened at the last moment (58th). With a volley from Marco Grüll was again Früchtl on the spot (60th).

Manfred Schmid brought on Manuel Polster for Andreas Gruber after an hour. Fischer had a header after a free kick from Fitz, Galvão put a backward kick over the goal after the subsequent corner kick (65th). Referee Schüttengruber took back a wrongly given penalty for Rapid after an on-field review (67th).
