Austria suffered their first defeat after a run of twelve unbeaten games - once again their opponents were Red Bull Salzburg, with Oscar Gloukh scoring the decisive goal. Despite 63% possession, the Violets were unfortunately unable to equalise, with Salzburg remaining dangerous on the counter-attack. The top match of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga ended 0-1.

Stephan Helm put his trust in the derby-winning starting eleven from the start. Matteo Pérez Vinlöf returned to the squad after his yellow card suspension.
Salzburg coach Thomas Letsch, who was still on the Austria bench in the last violet victory against Salzburg, had to do without the injured Hendry Blank, Bobby Clark and Max Caufriez. Moussa Yeo, Joane Gadou and debutant Tim Trummer took their places in the starting eleven.
Austria started dynamically with the momentum of the derby win, Aleksandar Dragović sent on Nik Prelec, who could only be stopped by Samson Baidoo with a foul. The referee team led by Thomas Ebner only penalised the clear emergency brake with a yellow card (4'). The team from Mozartstadt capitalised on their first opportunity, Oscar Gloukh making it 0-1 after a counter-attack in the 7th minute.
The Violets were not to be deterred, Johannes Handl got on the end of a Dominik Fitz free-kick but shot over the goal (15'). The home side established themselves in the Bulls' half, but the 13,700 fans in the Generali-Arena had to wait longer for any real goalscoring opportunities.
In the 39th minute, Samuel Şahin-Radlinger cleared a shot from Leandro Morgalla with difficulty and Nicolás Capaldo missed the follow-up shot. Baidoo, who was again lucky not to be sent off after another foul on Reinhold Ranftl, saved a Maurice Malone shot from the line (42'). Şahin-Radlinger was on hand to convert a Gloukh opportunity (44'), 0-1 at the break.
A lightning start by Austria almost meant the equaliser, but Hakim Guenouche narrowly missed after a Fitz cross after just 15 seconds. The Frenchman was on target again just a little later, but this time Alexander Schlager prevented the 1-1 (50'). Şahin-Radlinger parried a shot from Yeo and Yorbe Vertessen converted the follow-up, but was offside (52').
Marko Raguž came on for Abubakr Barry on the hour mark. Shortly before that, Nik Prelec missed the best chance to equalise after a pass from Reinhold Ranftl (63'). Matteo Pérez Vinlöf and Andreas Gruber replaced Hakim Guenouche and Maurice Malone. Şahin-Radlinger prevented Salzburg from making it 0-2 with a great save, while Schlager parried a volley from Manfred Fischer (75‘, 78’).
Shortly before the end, Stephan Helm brought on Lucas Galvão and Marvin Potzmann for centre-backs Johannes Handl and Tin Plavotić. Unfortunately, however, the storming run in the 8-minute injury time did not bring any more results and Austria suffered their first home defeat of the season against Red Bull Salzburg.
