Three days after the 2:2 in the UEFA Europe League the “Violets” faced SCR Altach. Coach Thorsten Fink was forced to change the team due to two further absentees. Raphael Holzhauser and Dominik Prokop could not play due to a cold, next to Thomas Salamon and Kevin Friesenbichler, Lee Jinhyun and for the first time Ruan started in the lineup. Thomas Salamon started instead of Martschinko on the left in the four-back. Tarkan Serbest led the “Violets” as captain on the field. For Altach started Zech instead of Müller, otherwise the lineup remained unchanged compared to the 0-0 against Sturm Graz.
Due to the numerous absentees coach Thorsten Fink announced to play it save during the Viola TV Live-Interview shortly before the game. As a result, high-caliber opportunities were initially rare - but the “Violets” still had three great chances to take the lead. First, a direct corner from the left-hand side by Felipe Pires, which let Kobras struggle (15'). Shortly after, a corner, this time from the right side and kicked by Ismael Tajouri-Shradi, which brought Altach’s defense in trouble. The third corner in a true corner series, this time again from the left by Felipe Pires, but Kevin Friesenbichler could not get to the ball perfectly.
Altach had their best chance just before the half-time break, when Zech headed a cross just past the long corner. Goalless the break began.
The game changed completely in the second half - both teams were looking for the goal and acted more offensively. Especially the “Violets” put pressure on Altach. However, Altach had the first big opportunity: Abdul Kadiri loses the duel, Gebauer shots on goal and hits the bar (52')
Afterwards the “Violets” were the only ones on the trigger: Friesenbichler hits the pole from sort distance after a cross from Serbest, Pires’ follow-up shot went past the goal.
In minute 72 finally the salvation: a magnificent cross by Salamon, in the center Ibrahim Alhassan can easily score - his first goal for the “Violets”. The victory was even closer ten minutes later, when Philip Netzer, Altach’s captain, fouls Christoph Monschein - a clear red card (82'). Another five minutes later the final decision - David de Paula assists Friesenbichler, who scores the 2:0.
A word to new arrival Ruan: the Brazilian played a great game in the central defense, won six of his seven duels and all five of his header duels. 91% of his passes landed with the right player and he only had to make one foul during the entire game. A great debut!
