2:0 against Mattersburg in the last match of the year

With goals by Lucas Venuto and Petar Filipovic - once again after the break – FK Austria Wien celebrated a victory against Mattersburg.

Thorsten Fink made some changes after the disappointing defeat in St. Pölten: Christoph Martschinko returned to the starting line-up, Thomas Salamon was ill. Lukas Rotpuller, who was slightly injured, was replaced by Richard Windbichler, who started in central defence. Tarkan Serbest took over the position next to Raphael Holzhauser in the defensive midfield. Venuto started instead of Ismael Tajouri-Shradi and Larry Kayode instead of Kevin Friesenbichler.

Mattersburg-Coach Ivica Vastic stayed true to his line-up after the game against Admira, only Jano came for Röcher.

No goals before the break, no reason to panic

The last game of the year began with a free-kick by Raphael Holzhauser, which Kuster turned over the bar (2'). Alexander Grünwald made a long-range shot, which Kuster also parried (11'). After good assistance by Felipe Pires, Larry Kayode had the “Violets” best chance, but slammed the ball over the goal (16'). Mattersburg’s first shot came from Höller, which did not pose any problems for Osman Hadzikic (17'). At the last moment, Windbichler cleared before Bürger (18'), Mattersburg found better into the game now.

First Jens Stryger Larsen lost the one on one against Fran, but could then make a save on the line after Hadzikic was beaten (29'). With a free-kick from Jano, which Hadzikic was able to ward off with some problems, the strong phase of the guests ended (29').

The “Violets” took over the game again. A free-kick by Holzhauser, briefly played by Grünwald, landed with Kuster (39'). Serbest used Grünwald with a great switch of play, but Kayode and Venuto missed his cross (40'). At the end of the first half, Venuto's header missed the goal only by a few centimetres (45'). The first half ended with a 0:0 in the ice-cold Ernst Happel Stadium.

After the changeover, the “Violets” came back

FK Austria Wien began the second round with a lot of pressure as well. After a nice combination with Kayode Felipe Pires came into the penalty area, but slipped and stayed on the ground slightly injured. Luckily the Brazilian was able to keep on playing (47'). Shortly after, the “Violets” managed to score their first goal: Venuto crossed the box on the left side, played a lucky one-two with Mattersburg’s Jano, but then closed beautifully to the 1:0 lead (53').

Kuster was able to catch the ball after a corner by Holzhauser (56'). After another corner from the other side, the ball landed with Tarkan Serbest, whose shot was utilized by Petar Filipovic – 2:0 (57'). Another goal by Larry Kayode was rightly denied by the referee (68'). Osman Hadzikic parried a header from Pink (70').

A shot by Holzhauser from over 30 meters went by the goal (76'), a finish by Grünwald landed with Kuster (80'). Afterwards the “Violets” had some more good chances: Kayode shot next to the goal (82'), Pires failed at Kuster (86'). Matterburg’s last chance was crushed by Hadzikic who parried a shot by Perlak (88'). In the end, FK Austria Wien celebrated a well-deserved 2:0 victory.
