Kevin Friesenbichler with a stunning goal and Alexander Grünwald with a free-kick scored – 3:1. Astra Giurgiu came at it again thanks to Săpunaru but the „Violets” made sure to win this important away game.

Larry Kayode was able to play again during the first UEFA-Europa League-group stage game but Osman Hadzikic had to take over the goal for Robert Almer. Thorsten Fink also brought David de Paula and Thomas Salamon in the midfield, Ismael Tajouri-Shradi came instead of Lucas Venuto, and Kevin Friesenbichler started as the only striker.

Giurgiu-Coach Marius Şumudică brought some new players as well. Boudjemaa and Budescu started in the midfield and the team’s striker Alibec was able to play again after a muscle strain.

Lead at halftime

FK Austria Wien started well into the game. Thomas Salamon had a lot of room on the left side after Alexander Grünwald got the ball to him but his cross to Kevin Friesenbichler wasn’t accurate enough (5.). The “Violets” were leading the game with 70% ball possession. Friesenbichler went into the penalty box after a pass from Tajouri and was taken to the ground from Fabrício. The referee gave a penalty shot and Raphael Holzhauser secured the ball into the right corner – 1:0 (16.).

But the joy only lasted shortly. 144 seconds later Budescu got a free-kick and Alibec was able to fire and equalize (18.). Afterwards Giurgiu made more pressure, de Paula saved a shot from Teixeira (25.) and a shot from Budescu missed the goal (29.). But then it was the “Violets” turn again. Alexander Grünwald with a great pass to Friesenbichler, a volley out of the twist went over Lung – a beautiful goal – 1:2 (33.).

David de Paula couldn’t keep on playing after a foul from Teixeira and Jens Stryger Larsen came in the game. FK Austria Wien took over the game again. Alexander Grünwald had to save a single attack from Teixeira (43.). 92% passing accuracy at halftime, a fantastic statistic and a well-earned lead for the “Violets”.

… and in the end

Astra Giurgiu-coach Şumudică reacted and brought two new players but that didn’t change the game. Kevin Friesenbichler went right back in the game with a great header after a cross from Salamon which Lung barley caught (48.). Felipe Pires got through on the right side but Grünwald couldn’t take on his square pass (50.). Giurgiu answered with a header from Budescu which went by the goal (52.). Pires was fouled in front of the goal. Alexander Grünwald shot the free-kick and made the goal -1:3 (58.). Lucas Venuto came for Pires into the game.

In minute 74. Astra Giurgiu had the chance to make one more go. After a cross from Boudjemaa Săpunaru headed the ball into the goal 2:3. With Florea Şumudică brought another striker. Lukas Rotpuller got a red card after a hard attack against Morais, which didn’t make it easier for the “Violets” to hold the lead (79.).

Tarkan Serbest came into the game. Lucas Venuto had a chance to a fourth goal but he was leaking support from his offense (80.). Astra tried everything to turn the game around, a shot from Teixeira went over the goal (83.). Lung saved a shot from Tajouri (86.). On the other side Hadzikic saved shots from Alibec (87.) and Niculae (90.+2). But Astra gave their chance away and FK Austria Wien ended up being the table-toppers after the first match day in group E.
