4:0 – passing Sturm with three points in Graz

FK Austria Wien won clear and deserved against SK Sturm Graz. Alexander Grünwald ensured the lead after the changeover (60'), late goals from Rotpuller (88'), Friesenbichler (90' + 2') and Pires (90' + 6') made the victory clear and brought the “Violets” ahead of Sturm on the table.

Thorsten Fink did not make any changes after the opening-match against SK Rapid, the same players began on the field and on the bench as last Sunday.

Franco Foda made three changes after the defeat in Mattersburg, two debutants stood in the starting line-up in Graz. In the goal Daniel Lück represented the sick Christian Gratzei, the Norwegian Martin Ovenstad started instead of Simon Piesinger in the defensive midfield. Philipp Huspek started on the right wing, Sascha Horvath was seated on the bench for the time being.

Superior FK Austria Wien at first without any goals

A very dominant FK Austria Wien took over the game right from the start. After good groundwork by Felipe Pires, Larry Kayode had the first chance of the game but Lück reached the ball before him (3'). Pires made the first shot on goal shortly after, but it was too weak (6'). With over 70% ball possession in the initial quarter of an hour, the “Violets” did not let Sturm Graz appear offensively.

Raphael Holzhauser introduced himself with a shot to Sturm’s new goalie, but it was too central (21'). After great groundwork by Alexander Grünwald, Christoph Martschinko’s square pass unfortunately did not find a player in front of the goal (26'). After the following corner Pires shot was deflected (27'). Only in minute 36 SK Sturm Graz made their first shot on goal but it was harmless for Osman Hadzikic. A header from Alar after a corner of Hierländer was more dangerous, but went by the goal (43'). Referee Hameter missed a clear foul on Holzhauser during an attempt from a promising position (44'), with the 0-0 the teams went in the half-time break.

After the changeover the “Violets” ensured their victory

The second round started without a change and a game making FK Austria Wien. Alexander Grünwald finished after groundwork from Pires, a pass to Venuto in the middle would have been a better idea (48'). On the other hand, Hadzikic saved the “Violets” after a shot from Ovenstad (53'). Our goalkeeper injured himself on the thumb, but could continue.

The game started to get faster, the duels were more energetic as well. Raphael Holzhauser won the ball against Ovenstad, after a one-two between Grünwald and Venuto, Grünwald finished and scored (60'). With this Alexander Grünwald scored his seventh goal this season.

Venuto almost made the pre-decision, he past Koch and moved inside, but Lück parried his shot spectacularly (71'). A finish by Holzhauser missed the goal (75'). Pretty early Franco Foda brought fresh forces with Atik, Chabbi and Horvath into the game. After a short breather FK Austria Wien made sure of their victory before the end. After a good pass from Grünwald to Kayode, the Nigerian went by Spendlhofer, but failed Lück in the goal of Sturm Graz. Lukas Rotpuller headed the following corner by Holzhauser into the goal 2-0 (88').

Already during the stoppage time, the “Violets” made two more goals: Kevin Friesenbichler, who just replaced Kayode, scored out of a turn (90' + 2'). After groundwork from Mohammed Kadiri, who came for Grünwald into the game, Felipe Pires scored his first tipico-National League goal in the “Violets” dress - 4-0 (90' + 6'). This gave our team a clear victory against SK Sturm Graz.
