Manfred Schmid made one change after the Cup win against Spittal an der Drau: Marvin Martins, the newcomer from Luxembourg, started on the right in the back four. Georg Teigl moved up to midfield, Benedikt Pichler took a seat on the bench for the time being. Central defender Lukas Mühl, signed this week, was already in the squad.

Breiðablik beat Racing Union from Luxembourg in the first qualifying round with an aggregate score of 5:2. Coach Óskar Hrafn Þorvaldsson's team is currently in 3rd place in the Icelandic championship.

Djuričin put the Violets in the lead

At the beginning, Patrick Pentz was the center of attention, our goalkeeper turned a corner kick of the Icelanders over the crossbar. Afterwards, Pentz parried a shot by Damir Muminović (5th, 6th). Austria's first chance came from Manfred Fischer, but his shot went over the goal (11.). When Johannes Handl attacked Gísli Eyjólfsson in the penalty area, referee Kári Á Høvdanum's whistle remained silent - some luck for the home team.

The Violets got into the game better after 15 minutes, the goalkeeper of the Icelanders - Anton Ari Einarsson - was able to distinguish himself on a header by Fischer after a free kick by Dominik Fitz (17.). After the ensuing corner kick, Markus Suttner got a finish, but shot over. A header by Eric Martel after another Fitz corner also missed the goal (17th, 18th). Breiðablik had a chance through Kristinn Steindórsson, but the ball went wide (25.). Dominik Fitz fueled himself with a solo into the penalty area, but his pass was intercepted (27th). After that, Christian Schoissengeyr had two chances, but goalkeeper Einarsson saved his volley from the edge of the penalty area and a header from the following corner (29th).

Shortly afterwards, however, the ball was in the net: after a fantastic opening by Johannes Handl, Manfred Fischer got to the ball and passed it back to Dominik Fitz. Fitz crossed into the penalty area and Marco Djuričin headed the ball into the goal - 1:0 (32.). After a nice pass from Fitz, Djuričin had another chance, Einarsson was able to deflect the shot for a corner (35.). Patrick Pentz was on the spot with a long shot from Viktor Einarsson (41st). The last scoring chance of the first half, with the deserved purple lead went into the cabins.

Breiðablik equalized

The second half began very badly, with Breiðablik equalizing in the 47th minute. After a mistake in the build-up to the game, Alexander Sigurðarson scored into the far corner after an assist from Árni Vilhjálmsson. Patrick Pentz set up Georg Teigl with a long drive, but unfortunately his cross did not reach Marco Djuričin (54th).

Manfred Schmid made three changes after the hour: Alexander Grünwald, Benedikt Pichler and Aleksandar Jukić came on for Dominik Fitz, Marco Djuričin and Georg Teigl. In the 73rd minute Grünwald was clearly held back in the penalty area, but a penalty whistle again failed to materialize. Grünwald had a headed chance after a cross from Markus Suttner, but the ball missed (77th). A shot by Eric Martel was blocked for a corner, then Benedikt Pichler missed an opportunity (81st). After a nice counterattack over several stations, Pichler put back to Vesel Demaku, but he shot over the goal (83rd). Can Keles came into the game for Demaku shortly before the end. Gísli Eyjólfsson missed the goal with a shot already in injury time, on the other side Alexander Grünwald and Marvin Martins missed the last chances of the game.

Austria had to settle for a 1-1 draw, and the return match will take place in Kopavogur on July 29
