A dream goal by Johannes Eggestein wasn't enough to earn any points against SV Ried. Eggestein put the Veilchen ahead, but a quick-fire pair of goals by Stefan Schwab and Philipp Pomer turned the game around in favor of the Upper Austrians before halftime. A penalty kick converted by Isaac Kiese Thelin sealed the victory; Eggestein’s second goal—which came in stoppage time—came too late.

Ried had the first chance of the game; a shot by Martin Rasner was deflected into the arms of Samuel Şahin-Radlinger (2nd minute). After that, however, it was Austria’s turn: Daniel Nnodim and Johannes Eggestein narrowly missed a cross from Ranftl, and on a cross from Marković, Ried goalkeeper Andreas Leitner beat Sanel Šaljić to the ball (4th, 11th).
In the 18th minute, the Veilchen took a 1-0 lead for only the second time this season. Eggestein celebrated his first Bundesliga goal of the current season: The German took a shot from about 20 meters out and scored with a phenomenal strike into the top corner.
Unfortunately, the joy didn’t last very long; Ried equalized in the 23rd minute with a header by Stefan Schwab. Shortly thereafter, Philipp Pomer hammered a short free kick into the corner—2–1 for the hosts (28th minute).
A shot by Šaljić was blocked (32'), and a goal by Ibrahim Buhari off a cross from Nnodim was disallowed due to an offside call (43'). The teams headed into the locker rooms with the score 2-1.
Stephan Helm brought Julian Hettwer into the game for Šaljić at the start of the second half. Eggestein needed treatment on his thigh but was able to continue. Rasner missed the target from close range—a lucky break for Violett (48'). After a corner kick, Eggestein got a shot off from a tight angle, but Leitner made a good save (51'). Pomer had plenty of space on the left side; his cross was dangerously deflected, but Şahin-Radlinger was there to clear it (54').
Eggestein flicked the ball on with his heel to Fischer, whose cross Marković was unfortunately unable to convert (63'). Matteo Schablas replaced Taeseok Lee in the 71st minute, and shortly afterward Kelvin Boateng came on for Marković. Pomer cleared a header by Boateng off the line (77'). Manfred Fischer headed a free kick from Eggestein, and the ball hit the post (80').
Instead of the equalizer, the Innviertler were awarded a penalty kick after a foul by Nnodim on Bajic; substitute Isaac Kiese Thelin confidently converted it to make it 3–1 for the home team (81').
Boateng sent the ball over the goal from a few meters out after a pass from Ranftl (89th minute); in the 90th minute, Florian Wustinger replaced the disappointed captain Fischer. Eggestein’s goal in the 93rd minute came too late, and Austria returned home from Ried without any points.
