Austria Wien and Altach part with a 2-2

Austria Wien was able to catch up after the 0-2 deficit through goals by Dominik Fitz and Christoph Monschein, the winning goal was not scored despite a strong performance after the break.

At the start of the spring season, coach Christian Ilzer had some minor surprises up his sleeve: Patrick Pentz was in the goal and thus completed his first competitive game of the current season. New arrival Andreas Poulsen made his debut right away, the Dane started on the left in the defence. Florian Klein, Erik Palmer-Brown and Michael Madl completed the back four. James Jeggo and captain Alexander Grünwald started in central midfield, Caner Cavlan found a new position on the right in the midfield. Dominik Fitz, Manprit Sarkaria and Christoph Monschein started up front.

Altach coach Alexander Pastoor lost his top scorer Mergim Berisha, Johannes Tartarotti took over his position. The newcomers Berkay Dabanli and Alain Wiss were in the starting line-up.

Altach quickly took the lead, Fitz provided hope with a great free kick

After a cross by Dominik Fitz, Manprit Sarkaria had the first chance of the game, but his volley was too weak (3’). A shot by Fitz missed the goal (8’). Altach was more efficient, with the first attack the hosts took the lead: Erik Palmer-Brown and Michael Madl blocked a shot by Tartarotti, the follow-up shot was used by Emanuel Schreiber (11’). It got worse, after a one-two pass with a Schreiner, Sidney Sam scored into the short corner with a low shot – 2-0 (20’).

A header by Berkay Dabanli missed the goal (21’). Michael Madl had to leave the pith because of dizziness, Alexandar Borković replaced the defence chief - the start of the spring season was not too pleasant. Christian Gebauer put a ball sharply past the second post (31’), the Austria Wien fans had to wait until the 43rd minute for a scoring chance, but were able to cheer straight away: Dominik Fitz perfectly scored a free kick after a foul on Christoph Monschein - only 2-1. With the narrow gap the halftime break started.

Monschein equalized

Christian Ilzer made his second change at the break, Patrick Wimmer replaced Caner Cavlan – they had to do more in the offense during the second half. And that’s exactly what happened: Wimmer initiated the first chance of the ‘Violets’, via Fitz the ball came to Monschein, but his finish was blocked (49’). Martin Kobras took away another great chance to equalize from Christoph Monschein, who was ideally used by Manprit Sarkaria (56’). Shortly after the goal-getter managed to score. Wimmer drove the ball from his own half in the direction of Altach’s goal, Monschein used his assist with a lob over Kobras, the next dream goal – 2-2 (59’).

A deflected shot by Patrick Wimmer missed the goal by a hair’s breadth, Alexandar Borković also almost scored the 3-2 after the subsequent corner (71’, 72’). After a corner by Sarkaria, Erik Palmer-Brown missed the goal with a header (79’). Kobras parried a header by Alex Grünwald (84’). Bright Edomwonyi came for Dominik Fitz, the last change for the ‘Violets’. The game ended with the 2-2, the gap to Hartberg in the standings was reduced to six points.
