Austria exercises contract option on Abubakr Barry

Austria Wien has exercised the option in Abubakr Barry’s contract and extended the midfielder’s contract, which was originally due to expire this summer, until the end of the 2026/27 season.

The 25-year-old joined the Violets from the Israeli second division in 2024 and quickly established himself as a key player in coach Stephan Helm’s team. So far this Bundesliga season, Barry has made 22 appearances, scoring four goals and providing three assists. He is currently on international duty with the Gambian national team and will play an away match against Senegal on Tuesday.

Abu Barry missed the 1-0 win in Hartberg due to a yellow card suspension; he will return to the squad for next week’s away match against LASK (Sunday, 5 April, 2.30 pm).
