Away victory in Graz through a double pack by Holzhauser

Austria Wien could bring home three points from Graz thanks to goals through a header and a free-kick by Captain Raphael Holzhauser. The only bad news: Holzhauser and Serbest will miss the Derby next week because of yellow cards.

In the 200th championship duel between Sturm Graz and Austria Wien Coach Thomas Letsch relied on a 4-2-3-1 system, Michael Madl returned after his illness in the central defense. Thomas Salamon replaced Stefan Stangl on the left in the back four. Vesel Demaku started again in the defensive midfield next to Tarkan Serbest, Dominik Fitz celebrated his debut as the key player in front of them. Raphael Holzhauser and Felipe Pires started on the wings and Kevin Friesenbichler in the front. Dominik Prokop set the game out due to an ankle injury, still ten Austrians were in the squad.

Sturm Graz Coach Heiko Vogel - most recently with five competitive victories in a row - switched to a 3-4-3 system, but only made one personnel change: Philipp Huspek replaced Jakob Jantscher, and started on the right in midfield.

‘Holzhauser- Show!’

Strum Graz had the first chance of the match by Huspek (2', missed the goal), but Austria Wien scored the lead: Thomas Salamon made his way through on the left, brought the ball to Dominik Fitz, Fitz then assisted Raphael Holzhauser ideally, who shot on goal. Jörg Siebenhandl parried the captain’s shot, but after another cross by Salamon Holzhauser scored by head – 0-1 (5').

The “Violets” put pressure on Sturm, the game became stronger. Tarkan Serbest saw his 5th yellow card of the season and is therefore missing in the derby against Rapid Wien next week. A nice action over Thorsten Röcher gave Bright Edomwonyi a great opportunity to equalize, but the striker shot just wide past the long corner, alone in front of Patrick Pentz (25'). During Graz’s strongest phase Dario Maresic fouled Felipe Pires on the right in the penalty box. Raphael Holzhauser shot the penalty kick and slammed the ball from acute angle into the long corner – 0-2 (33').

After a corner-kick by Peter Zulj, Huspek came to the finish, but missed the goal (40'). A shot by Kevin Friesenbichler went over the goal (42'), Jörg Siebenhandl neutralized another free-kick by Holzhauser (45'). Austria Wien went into the break with a very pleasing 2-0 lead.

The “Violets” brought home three points!

Heiko Vogel took on risk and brought Stefan Hierländer and Jakob Jantscher at half-time, Sturm had a chance through Edomwonyi, Pentz saved (49'). Friesenbichler shot past Siebenhandl after an assist by Holzhauser, but the ball did not land in the goal (53'). On the other side, Pentz parried a shot by Hierländer (55').

In the 57th minute Dominik Fitz’s debut ended, Christoph Monschein came into the game. Sturm pushed for a goal, Patrick Pentz prevented an own goal by Michael Madl (60'). David de Paula should provide stability and came into the game instead of Kevin Friesenbichler, Sturm had another chance through Deni Alar. The goal scorer barely missed the goal after ground work by Jantscher (70').

Afterwards the “Violets” had a good grip on the game, Thomas Letsch brought Ibrahim Alhassan for Felipe Pires. A shot by Fabian Koch in the 91st minute, which went far over the goal, was the last significant action of the game. FK Austria Wien celebrated their fourth victory in the fifth game under Thomas Letsch.
