Benedikt Pichler moves to Holstein Kiel

Benedikt Pichler leaves Austria Wien after two years to play for Holstein Kiel, a top team in the second German Bundesliga that almost won promotion in the previous season: "Another sign that Austria Wien is a house number for hungry players who want more. We offer the players a platform and can give their careers a boost," emphasises sport director Manuel Ortlechner.

Benedikt Pichler has been playing for Austria Wien since the summer of 2019, when he moved from second division Austria Klagenfurt to Vienna-Favoriten. Through strong performances with the Young Violets, the Salzburg player quickly recommended himself for higher tasks. In 57 games for the fighting team, Pichler scored 15 goals and provided ten assists.

"We know the quality of Benedikt Pichler. He played a top season last year. This transfer comes about due to a very short-term request, Holstein Kiel offered him an exciting perspective, so we didn't want to put any obstacles in his way," explained Manuel Ortlechner.

The sporting director makes no secret of the fact that Pichler's departure is a loss for Austria Wien: "We thank Benedikt Pichler for the path he has taken with us. He is a great guy and will also leave a hole in his humanity."

Now Pichler wants to attack in Germany. Holstein Kiel qualified for relegation in the pre-season as third in the second German Bundesliga, but lost there to 1. FC Köln.
