Bitter defeat in Altach

Austria suffered a 1-2 defeat to SCR Altach in the 20th round of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga. Filip Milojević and Mohamed Ouedraogo scored for the Vorarlberg team, while Johannes Eggestein managed to equalise in the meantime. All goals were scored in the first half within three minutes.

Head coach Stephan Helm had to do without Aleksandar Dragović in Altach due to illness. Philipp Wiesinger took his place in central defence, with Kang Hee Lee moving back to right-back. Philipp Maybach took over the defensive midfield position. Otherwise, the starting eleven remained unchanged after the successful start to the spring season.

SCR Altach has had a new coach since the beginning of January in Ognjen Zarić and also got off to a good start to the season with two wins and a draw. Moritz Oswald replaced Sandro Ingolitsch, who was out with bruised ribs, while Srdjan Hrstic moved into the starting line-up for the suspended Ousmane Diawara. Mohamed Ouedraogo, who was eligible to play again, started on the left wing in place of Rassa Rahmani.

Three goals in three minutes

It took a long time for both teams to get into the game, with the first notable chance on goal not coming until the 26th minute. Taeseok Lee shot from 18 metres, but Dejan Stojanović in the Altach goal tipped the powerful shot over the bar. A shot from Oswald went well over the goal (29'). Yann Massombo was stopped by Kang Hee Lee, and after the resulting corner, SCR Altach took a 1-0 lead. Filip Milojević scored with a powerful header from Patrick Greil's cross, leaving Samuel Şahin-Radlinger with no chance (31').

Austria equalised immediately, with Abubakr Barry putting pressure on Mike Bähre and the ball reaching Johannes Eggestein, who made it 1-1 (33'). The joy did not last long, as just a few seconds later the home side took the lead again when Ouédraogo scored from a cross by Hrstić to make it 2-1 (34').

The Violets struggled in the pouring rain on the heavy pitch, and Altach went into the half-time break with a 2-1 lead.

No way through for the Violets

There were no changes at half-time. Vesel Demaku opened the second half with a long-range shot, but it went well over the bar (50'). Sanel Šaljić had a shot on goal after a pass from Reinhold Ranftl, but it was too central (51'). Eggestein failed to beat Stojanović from a promising position, the opportunity having been set up by Kang Hee Lee with a header (54'). Ranftl shot wide of the goal (57').

After an hour, Stephan Helm brought on Romeo Vučić and Johannes Handl for Šaljić and Maybach. Şahin-Radlinger saved a header from Milojevic from close range (66'). Kelvin Boateng replaced Kang Hee Lee in the 76th minute, with Austria needing a goal.

Anteo Fetahu sent a free kick just wide of the goal, Barry shot over (81st, 82nd). After a cross from Eggestein, Ranftl had the best chance to equalise, but the ball flew just past the far post (83rd). That was the end for Ranftl, with Marijan Österreicher replacing the winger.

The Violets pressed in the closing stages, but Altach secured their first win against Austria since September 2023.
