Austria Wien and Carina Wenninger are moving forward together into the future. The 127-time Austrian international has extended her contract as a player and, following the departure of Lisa Makas, will also take on the strategic development of women's football at the club. ‘I still feel in top shape, I still have a tremendous passion for football and I am therefore very happy to extend my contract with such a traditional club and to continue on the path of sporting success and drive it forward. Another important factor in my decision about my future was that, in trusting discussions with the club management, I was shown an exciting way in which I can help to take women's football at Austria Wien to a new level off the pitch, alongside my active career,’ explains Carina Wenninger.
The 34-year-old defender was an absolute starter and leader last season and played a major role in the Violets' strong defensive performance. Wenninger played in 28 of 29 possible games and always the full 90 minutes. In addition to scoring three goals, she only received one yellow card – further proof of her footballing qualities and enormous experience.

In addition to her important role on the pitch, she will also take over the duties of Lisa Makas, who retired from football at the end of the season, together with coach Stefan Kenesei. Wenninger will be responsible for the strategic development of women's football at Austria Wien, while the head coach will take over the sporting management.
Stefan Kenesei: ‘It is an important sign that we have been able to retain someone of Carina's calibre, not only as a player but also in this new position. It shows that we are on the right track. We want to continue on this path, develop further and have a clear goal in mind. I am looking forward to my new, exciting tasks, will try to make my contribution and hope to have a positive influence on the team and the entire club in this role as well. Together, we want to continue to bring joy to the fans and, hopefully, celebrate a title in the medium term.’
