For Austria Wien Caner Cavlan started on the left in the defence, Stephan Zwierschitz started alongside Johannes Handl in the central defence. Thomas Ebner, Tarkan Serbest and James Jeggo formed the midfield, Dominik Prokop, Christoph Monschein and Dominik Fitz started up front. Alexander Grünwald took a break and was not in the squad.
Admira coach Reiner Geyer changed his team on four positions after the narrow defeat against LASK and started with a defensive 5-3-2 system. Boris Cmiljanic celebrated his Bundesliga debut for Admira.
The ‘Violets’ started very powerful and strong, with a direct free-kick by Caner Cavlan which was fended off by Andreas Leitner (6’), a dynamic effort by captain Florian Klein ended with a weak finish (7’). Admira could only help themselves with fouls, 3 players saw yellow cards in the first quarter of an hour. Another free-kick by Cavlan slammed against the crossbar, and from Leitner's back it crossed the goal line (16’). In the counterattack after the following corner, Ivan Lučić parried against Boris Cmiljanic, while Marcus Maier was standing offside (17’). A shot by Sinan Bakis was fished out of the corner by Lučić (21’). Christoph Monschein had the best chance for the lead in the 29th minute after a ball loss by Roman Kerschbaum, but his finish missed the goal.
After a corner by Admira a counterattack opened for the ‘Violets’, Dominik Prokop ideally passed on Christoph Monschein, the striker started from his own half and this time Leitner had no chance – 1-0 in the 44th minute. This was also the half-time score; Austria Wien went into the break with a narrow lead.
Tarkan Serbest opened the second half with a shot from a distance, but Leitner had no problems with it (47’). Dominik Prokop's shot was more dangerous but the ball missed the left post (52’). Admira had a chance with a header by Boris Cmiljanic after a corner kick by Kerschbaum but it also went past the goal (58’). A little later, the new signing scored: with ideal assist by Marcus Maier, Cmiljanic didn’t give Lučić any chance - 1-1 (62’).
Substitute Erwin Hoffer almost turned the game, but his header missed the goal (67’). Meanwhile, Christian Ilzer made two changes: Maximilian Sax and Alon Turgeman came into the game for Fitz and Prokop. Ivan Lučić saved against Bakis and Hoffer twice within a few seconds (78’). On the other side, a cross by Max Sax didn’t find a taker, a finish by Thomas Ebner after a pass by Florian Klein was blocked by Fabian Menig (81’, 84’). Substitute Seth Paintsil had another chance for the Lower Austrians in a counterattack, again Lučić remained the winner (87’). The game ended with a disappointing 1-1 against the last in the league table.
