With two rounds to go, Austria (4th, 23 points) are still in the race for the European Cup places, the gap to third place, which means a fixed place in a group stage, is currently only two points. Most recently, the Veilchen played to draws in the direct duels with their city rivals (3rd, 25) and WAC (5th, 22):

"Even if the results were not always as we wanted, I am satisfied with the form of my team. Except for the away game in Salzburg, the performances in the games of the last weeks were very o.k., partly even very good. Now we want to build on that against Klagenfurt," Manfred Schmid explains.

Good balance & offensive solutions

Austria Klagenfurt (6th, 20) last lost narrowly 1-2 against Sturm Graz and before that got a 2-2 draw in Hütteldorf. The Veilchen are still waiting for a win against the promoted team, all three encounters this season ended in draws:

"The previous duels show that the game in Klagenfurt will not be an easy task. Every team in the league has a hard time against the Carinthians because they defend very well. We need a good balance, solutions on the offensive and efficiency. At the same time, it will be important to be wide awake in the rest of the defence, because Austria Klagenfurt are dangerous in the transition game," Schmid said.

Personnel news

Eric Martel returns to the team after his yellow suspension. Marco Djuricin is questionable for Sunday after his concussion in the Vienna derby, as is the stricken centre-back Lucas Galvão. Otherwise, only the long-term injured Ziad El Sheiwi, Georg Teigl and Muharem Huskovic are missing.

The matches will be played simultaneously on Sunday, 15 May at 17:00 and on Saturday, 21 May at 17:00.

In case of a tie, the direct duel will count first. If there is no winner (four times 1:1 in the Vienna derby), the goal difference will decide. Austria won the direct duel with WAC. Against Austria Klagenfurt, everything is still open after three draws so far, although the Violets would be ahead of the Carinthians due to the rounding off of points in the event of a tie, as they did not have to round off.

The European Cup places

Third place advances to the UEFA Europa League play-off (18 & 25 August 2022) and qualifies at least for the group stage of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Fourth enters the UEFA Europa Conference League third qualifying round (4 & 11 August 2022) and would also have to survive a play-off after that.

Fifth will play the winner of the top two teams from the qualifying group in the Bundesliga play-off in a first and second leg (26 & 29 May) for the final European Cup ticket that entitles them to enter the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League (21 & 28 July 2022).
