More detailed examinations in the ‘Privatklinik Döbling’, health partner of Austria Wien, revealed an inflammation in the adductor in the right leg. He admits that it hurts a lot and with that he doesn’t mean the injury as much as his failure. "It's a bitter pill to swallow that I missed half the preparation. I do feel a lot better than I did in the training camp," says Ebner, who played 20 out of 21 competitive games in the fall (a yellow-card suspension).
"My plan is to come back as soon as possible and join the team training again," says Ebner, whose therapy currently includes individual rehabilitation training with our physiotherapists Florian Metz and Christoph Lichtenecker. The weight room and ergometer are currently at the top of the training routine.
Ebner is mentally very positive, is pleased with his teammates Alex Grünwald and Christoph Martschinko, who had their comebacks in Belek after long injury breaks:
"It's great for Grüni and Tschinki to be back. The two can really help us out, thy are leading players. For me, I hope that I do not have to pause too long." The first competitive games (February 15th, Cup quarter-finals against GAK and February 22nd, 19th Bundesliga round against LASK) are probably too soon for Ebner.
After the game against Linz the first two games in the Generali-Arena are being played in 2019, first against TSV Hartberg (March 3rd, 2:30 PM) and SCR Altach (March 10th, 5 PM). At the end of the basic round, there will be a game against a direct competitor: Sturm Graz (March 17th, 5 PM).
Ebner also celebrates his 27th birthday on the day of the game against LASK. But this Friday he will be thinking of Austria Wien: "It is important that we bring home three points from Pasching, reach our goals in the spring, attract attention and for it to be great season for Austria Wien."
Currently fifth in the table, the ‘Violets’ are seven points behind the second place (LASK), two behind the third place (St. Pölten), four points ahead of the seventh place (Hartberg) and seven ahead of the eighth place (Rapid). "We want to make the points we need in the first three league games in 2019 to secure a place in the champions group," hopes Ebner, whose role model is Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
"The sooner we secure our place under the first six, the better. Then we will be able to play freely," emphasizes our man with the number 27 on the jersey.
