"It tingles" before the first game

Austria Wien welcome Austria Klagenfurt to the Generali-Arena on Sunday at 17:00 for their spring kick-off. Coach Michael Wimmer thinks it is "mega" that more than 11,000 tickets have already been sold. For him it is the first match as Austria coach, for Jürgen Werner the first as board member. Every Austria Wien member receives two free tickets for the match.

Board member Jürgen Werner: "My expectations are the same as before every game: I would like three points. It's an important game for us and my first as a board member - of course I want a win. We try to convince the Austria fans with our work."

Coach Michael Wimmer: "It's tingling, there's a certain tension - I'm looking forward to the first game. It's mega that over 11,000 tickets have already been sold. We need the support of the fans so that the team can play courageous and active football. It's an important game because of the standings, but there are still five more in the first round after that. What matters is what happens on the pitch, which is why I'm not spouting any empty phrases before the game. We are focusing on football."

Personnel news

The long-term injured Marko Raguž, Muharem Husković, Ziad El Sheiwi & Florian Wustinger are still out. Lucas Galvão has been missing since the beginning of the preparation due to an adductor injury, the centre-back is working individually on his comeback.

James Holland suffered a muscle injury in the test match against FAC and will not be able to play on Sunday, nor will Andreas Gruber, who is recovering from a flu infection. Ibrahima Dramé is also still out due to the after-effects of a flu infection. Haris Tabaković had to stop training on Tuesday due to muscular problems in his calf and is questionable for the match.

Lukas Mühl, on the other hand, is back in full team training and was able to play his first 15 minutes in 2023 in the last test match: "Now we have to see what feedback he gives me after the training sessions today and on Saturday - then we will see if it is enough for the squad or even for the starting eleven," explained Michael Wimmer.
