"The structures here are great, the stadium, the training pitches and the whole environment is just great. The fans are always behind us, even if things are not going as well, that's very important for us. I had a very good feeling when I first arrived at our stadium."
On Sunday in the 92nd minute Ewandro scored after assist by Venuto and a cross by Cuevas with a worth seeing header into the far corner. "I am pleased to have scored the decisive goal. In that situation, it was simply an attacker’s instinct to score when you’re with the ball before the defender, after such a great cross," said the Brazilian with a big smile.
The first goal is only the start, Ewandro is very ambitious: "The first goal is always particularly important. I hope I can score a lot more goals for Austria Wien. I work very hard every day during our trainings. I really want to earn my place in the starting line-up."
Amongst other things the two other Brazilians Lucas Venuto and Igor as well as the Chilean Cristian Cuevas help with his integration into the team. Together with the latter, he completes a German course several times a week.
"I have settled in well. We have a young team and many good people in the club - that makes it easy to integrate. In addition, I already have experience in Europe and know the mentality," says Ewandro, who already played with Udinese Calcio and Estoril Praia in the top division of Italy and Portugal.
His first impressions of the Austrian Bundesliga are consistently positive. Comparable with the Serie A or the Primeira Liga? "In Italy it is very difficult to assert oneself, the games are very competitive and hard-running. In Portugal it is a bit more relaxed, at the same time, the clubs have an incredible quality. My first impression in Austria is that the games here are also very intense, fighting and running are extremely important factors."
