Great experience at the FIFA eClub World Cup

The FIFA eClub World Cup 2020 was held in Milan this weekend. Austria Wien presented itself well when it participated for the first time, but failed entering the knockout phase very narrowly, in the probably strongest group. For Marcel 'Juno16x' Holy and David 'Neubi' Neubauer it was still a great event.

The ‘Violets’ got off to a good start in the group phase, prevailing in the first pairing against the QLASH team with 2-1 victories (1-2, 1-0, 1-0). Each match-up consisted of three duels, one each on the PlayStation with David and on the Xbox with the new eBundesliga champion Marcel and a two-on-two on any console.

Against the big favourites and later superior group winner Fnatic, the ‘Violets’ had to admit defeat three times (2-3, 1-2, 1-2), unfortunately there was nothing to be won against Redemption eSports, three clear defeats (2-4, 0-4, 0-5). On the second day of the tournament, the duels with Nasr eSports and AS Roma which were decisive for moving on to the round of 16 were on the program.

'Neubi' won 4-1, 'Juno16x' won 1-0, Austria Wien temporarily overtook Nasr eSports. Because the team from the Middle East won the "doubles" 2-1, the ‘Violets’ were again two points behind the fourth place in the table before the last group game. Only two points (1-3, 1-1, 0-0) against AS Roma and a total of 14 points were unfortunately not enough, Nasr eSports made it into the knockout phase with one draw against Fnatic and 15 point.

The participants in the quarter-finals and semi-finals prove that Austria Wien was dealing with one of the most difficult groups in the FIFA eClub World Cup 2020: with Fnatic, AS Roma and Nasr eSports, three of the best eight teams from Group C came in the final round included Fnatic and Roma, the most successful teams in this respect with eleven and eight victories in the group phase.

"I will work on my style of play"

The victory ultimately went to the US team Complexity Gaming, 'Joksan' and 'MaXe_VIP' were awarded $ 20,000 each and ~ 2,000 Global Series Points. Marcel and David each come back from Milan with 250 US dollars and 150 GS points as well as unique memories.

‘It was a really, really cool experience for me here in Milan, my first big international event at the World Cup - great! I was able to take a lot with me from here and will work on my playing style to do even better next time. It was a really cool and funny weekend with my eSports colleagues anyway,’ says 'Neubi' from the FIFA eClub World Cup.

Next stop: FUT-Champions-Cup in Paris

For 'Juno16x', the European journey continues next week, from February 21st to 23rd, he will be represented at the fourth FUT Champions Cup this season in Paris. Marcel was already at the second edition in Bucharest in November, now he is fighting in France against 31 other Xbox players from all over the world for up to 2,000 points for the Global Series and 50,000 US dollars (~ 45,500 euros).
