Helm ahead of the Lustenau match: “Only through hard work”

In the Bundesliga, the Violets’ last match took place around one and a half weeks ago. Austria suffered a 0–1 defeat against WSG Tirol and were therefore unable to secure the hoped-for home win in the rescheduled match of the fourth round:

“Our current situation in the Bundesliga is not satisfactory. We haven’t yet achieved the results we want, and in some matches we haven’t performed to the standard the team is capable of. We didn’t play well against WSG; we were too sloppy and inaccurate in many phases – we need to do much better on Sunday. Only through hard work will we get out of this,” says manager Stephan Helm.

Meanwhile, the Veilchen secured a convincing 6–0 victory in Traiskirchen last weekend in the second round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup. “We wanted to make a positive statement and I think we succeeded – even though, of course, everyone expected us to reach the next round against a Regionalliga side,” said Helm.

During the week, the squad and coaching staff had a full week to prepare for a Bundesliga match for the first time this season: “We have a squad that loves to give it their all in training and improve through their daily work. We were able to prepare very well for the match. We dedicated an entire training session to how we wanted to defend against Lustenau. In another session, we worked on our positional play with the ball.”

Austria Lustenau also enjoyed a commanding victory in the Cup: the Vorarlberg side beat Regionalliga outfit SV Lafnitz 6–2. In the Bundesliga, the newly promoted side recently suffered a 0–4 home defeat against WSG Tirol. Prior to that, however, Lustenau had already made a strong impression with an away draw at Sturm Graz and a home win against WAC.
