Austria took the lead in the very first minute of the game: A corner kick from Dominique Bruinenberg found the head of captain Verena Volkmer, who headed the ball into the goal - 0-1. The Violets continued to go on the offensive after this early lead, while Neulengbach did not give in without a fight and put up a spirited fight. An even game developed, in which the duels mainly took place in midfield.
But Austria wanted to extend their lead. And they succeeded shortly afterwards when Bruinenberg took another corner kick. The ball initially bounced off the defence before Lena Triendl followed up from distance and put the ball in the net to make it 0-2 (16'). A short time later, Violet goalkeeper Larissa Haidner made a superb save from close range to prevent Neulengbach from scoring their first goal (19').
The hosts kept trying to get on the offensive, but the Violet defence stood firm. A tense situation arose when Neulengbach's goalkeeper stormed out of the 16-yard box and Triendl tripped over her - but there was no clear free-kick for the Violets (44'). Austria had another good chance shortly before the break: Volkmer laid the ball off for Stefanie Schneeberger, but her shot went just wide of the goal.
After the half-time break, Austria continued to push for goals. In the 50th minute, Triendl put a long-range shot just wide of the goal. Shortly afterwards, Haidner prevented his opponents from scoring with another save (51'). When Carina Wenninger headed just over the goal after a corner (57') and headed the ball against the crossbar in the 64th minute, the dominance of the Violets was evident.
In the 70th minute, Bruinenberg's long-range shot first bounced on the ground before flying over the goalkeeper's fingers and into the net - 0-3. Five minutes later, Volkmer made it 0-4 (75') - her 14th goal of the season and fourth brace. The final goal of the game came in the 80th minute: Gini Kirchberger converted a precise cross from Maria Olsen and slotted the ball into the net to make it 5-0. In the closing stages, Alisa Ziletkina attempted another shot on goal, but the ball landed safely in the goalkeeper's hands (88').
With this clear 5-0 victory in the last away game of the basic round, the Violets consolidated their position in the table and are more than ready for the key game next Sunday. SKN St. Pölten will visit the Generali-Arena at 12 p.m., with the lead in the table at stake.
