The aim now is to lay the foundations for a sustainable structure in sport. The resulting findings in terms of concept and structure will then be presented. Jürgen Werner's responsibilities will be divided within the existing structure in sport until further notice. Harald Zagiczek will remain sole director for the time being and assume overall responsibility for FK Austria Wien AG.
Jürgen Werner: "I believe that in the current phase of the club, it is the right step for me to step down as sporting director and thus take the pressure off the team and the club. Austria Wien has become a project close to my heart, and I will remain closely involved in my role as investor and co-partner. We have put together a strong squad that has not yet been able to realise its full potential, but I have complete faith in the team and am more than confident that they will achieve a turnaround. I will hand over my responsibilities in the coming days and ensure that we successfully conclude the transfer period. After that, I will try to take a step back, but will of course still be available to offer advice and support. My goal as an investor and co-partner remains unchanged: I want Austria Vienna to be successful in the long term and believe that we have taken some steps in the right direction in recent years."
Kurt Gollowitzer: "Jürgen personally informed me of his decision, and I accept it. Stepping down as sporting director to take the pressure off the team is unusual in this industry, but it shows his greatness as a person. Without Jürgen and many other supporters, Austria Vienna would not have had the opportunity to survive financially. On behalf of all the Violets, I would like to thank him for this and for his commitment over the past few years. He deserves the utmost respect."
