Sporting director Franz Wohlfahrt extends his contract

FK Austria Wien is committed to continuity and agrees with sporting director Franz Wohlfahrt on the extension of his contract until the summer of 2021. The proposed election by President Wolfgang Katzian was accepted Monday evening by the supervisory committee and the administrative board.

President Wolfgang Katzian: “Franz Wohlfahrt has been a fixture in our club as sporting director for the past three years and has been successful in his work during this time. He was not only a driving force on a sporting level, but is also an essential part of our plans for the future. "

CEO Markus Kraetschmer: "Continuity is a very important component for FK Austria Wien, consequently the extension of Franz Wohlfahrt’s contract is very fitting. We have worked very openly and trustingly with each other over the past few years and are already looking forward to the tasks ahead of us. We have ambitious goals, always want solutions that carry the idea of our sporting philosophy and that is what Franz does with great conviction. He knows the club from the bottom up and enjoys everyone’s trust."

Franz Wohlfahrt has been the sporting director of FK Austria Wien since January 2015.

As player, the 53-year-old became a violet legend and was voted "FK Austria’s goalkeeper of the century" in 2011, after playing just under 500 games for the “Violets”; he is a six times champion and four times cup winner. Austria's footballer of the year 1993 can also look back on a considerable international career.

The 59-time ÖFB International kept VfB Stuttgart’s goal between 1996 and 2000. In 1997, Wohlfahrt led the Swabians to the Cup triumph, during the season after he led them to the final of the European Cup of Cup Winners, where they had to acknowledge defeat against Chelsea.
