The Danish newcomer Andreas Poulsen was already taking part (second from the right), missing were Bright Edomwonyi (celebrates Christmas today and tomorrow), Christian Schoissengeyr (knee surgery) and the American Erik Palmer- Brown, who got another day off. The trio joined performance tests and medical checks on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Benedikt Pichler is also not in Vienna yet, he is completing a special rehab program this week after his ankle surgery and will work with the team after the training camp (January 24th-31st, 2020). Alexandar Borkovic (fatigue fracture in the metatarsal), Max Sax and Johannes Handl (both groin complaints) should come back a little faster, they should be back for the camp in Turkey at the latest.
Coach Christian Ilzer is already full of anticipation, giving a short speech in the dressing room at exactly 2:15 pm and then getting his players started in 2020 for the first time. ‘We are full of energy and we are glad to get started again after the Christmas break.’
What does he expect this spring? ‘It will be up to us to continue the trend of the last games. We have a lot of preparation time that we want to use intensively and, in the end, we will see if it was enough.’
It will be important to find the rhythm quickly, to work through the training content during the week and to gain confidence for the spring with good test games during the weekends. The “Violets” kick off the test games on Saturday in and against Wr. Neustadt (2pm).
