Austria Wien and DAC 1904 drew goalless in the first test match of the new season. The 16-year-old Philipp Maybach and Rocco Sutterlüty as well as Samuel Şahin-Radlinger, Cristiano and Maurice Malone celebrated their debut for the Violets.
New coach Stephan Helm started two new players from the beginning in his first match. On the one hand, Samuel Şahin-Radlinger, who was loaned to Almere City in the Netherlands in 2023/24, started in goal, while Philipp Maybach started on the double-six. Helm knows the 16-year-old well from his time with the Young Violets, as he brought Maybach from the U18s to the Regionalliga Ost in the spring, where he made nine appearances.
Luca Pazourek, Johannes Handl, Matteo Meisl and Hakim Guenouche formed the back four in front of Şahin-Radlinger, while captain Manfred Fischer and Maybach were deployed as defensive midfielders, with Andreas Gruber, Dominik Fitz and Muharem Husković supporting Romeo Vučić in the front.
After a rather quiet opening period, it was the Violets who gradually became more dangerous. The first opportunity was a double one: Vučić's shot was blocked and shortly afterwards Husković flicked the ball just over (13'). Maybach's attempt was also blocked in front of goal (14'), while shots from Gruber (26', 36') and Fitz (32') landed next to or over the goal.
The visitors became really dangerous for the first time in the 39th minute, but Şahin-Radlinger was quickly on hand to save a header from a good position. Almost on the counter-attack, Vučić ideally headed a cross back to Fischer, whose attempt from close range was too centred on the opposing goalkeeper (40').
The Violet coaching team made one complete change at the break. Mirko Kos was now in goal, with Reinhold Ranftl, Tin Plavotić, Dejan Radonjić and another debutant, Rocco Sutterlüty, in front of him, while Marvin Potzmann and Timo Schmelzer formed the midfield. Moritz Wels and new signing Cristiano were deployed on the wings, Sanel Šaljić as a ten and Maurice Malone up front.
After the break, it was the Slovakians again, this time with a header from a corner, but Kos did not have to intervene (52'). Malone tried his luck a little later with a powerful shot from the second row (55'), but his effort, like that of Šaljić, who finished after a pass from Cristiano (60'), landed over the goal.
The agile Brazilian showed off his dribbling skills in front of the numerous Austria fans, the majority of whom were already in our new shirts, and created the next chance, but Ranftl's subsequent pinpoint pass did not reach Malone ideally (66'). The visitors had the last chance worth mentioning, but Kos was able to prevent a goal with a reflex save (75').
Stephan Helm: "It was a very intensive first week of training for us, we also had another session in the morning. Of course it wasn't easy in the heat today, but we still had good phases and you could see where we wanted to go. There were good transitional moments and combinations, we were very aggressive against the ball. All in all, it was a good performance to start with."
Lucas Galvão and Marvin Martins as well as Ziad El Sheiwi, Florian Wustinger and Marko Raguž were still missing for the first test match of the new season.
