1-2 home defeat against Sturm Graz

The newly-crowned cup winners took the lead against Austria with first-half goals from David Schnegg and Emmanuel Emegha. Matan Baltaxa's follow-up goal in the 53rd minute was too little.

Austria Wien started the second leg against Sturm Graz with two changes in the starting eleven: Matteo Meisl started in central defence instead of Lukas Mühl, Matthias Braunöder was preferred to James Holland.

Compared to the successful Cup final, Sturm coach Christian Ilzer made only one change, Alexandar Borkovic replaced the suspended David Affengruber.

Sturm scored twice in half-time

Goalkeeper Christian Früchtl distinguished himself in the very first action of the match, the 23-year-old German fishing a header from Jon Gorenc Stankovič after a corner kick from Manprit Sarkaria (2nd half). Graz dominated the game at the beginning, Austria had a chance through Johannes Handl after a free kick by Dominik Fitz, but his header was too weak (12th). Good chances by Alexander Prass and Stefan Hierländer remained unused (17th, 19th), before David Schnegg put the score at 0-1 with his head after a free kick by Jusuf Gazibegović (21st).

After the goal, the game became rougher and Austria tried to make more of an offensive impact. Haris Tabaković hit the outer net, Andreas Gruber the bar, but both were just offside (37th, 39th). On the other side, Früchtl was on the spot for a shot by Prass (38th).

In the 40th minute Emmanuel Emegha took advantage of a misunderstanding in the Austria defence and scored a volley to make it 0-2. The Veilchen had to go into the break trailing.

Baltaxa's first goal was not enough

Lukas Mühl came on for Johannes Handl at the break and Austria tried to score. After a good action over several stations Reinhold Ranftl brought the ball to the middle, Matan Baltaxa was right on target and scored the 1-2. The first goal of the Israeli in the Austria kit (53rd).

Christian Früchtl had little trouble with a shot by Otar Kiteishvili, Baltaxa almost scored his second goal after a free kick by Fitz - just missed (65th, 68th). After a cross from Andi Gruber, Reinhold Ranftl shot from the side, but the ball missed its target (71th).

A quarter of an hour before the end, Michael Wimmer brought on Aleksandar Jukić and Manuel Polster for Matthias Braunöder and Matan Baltaxa. Nikola Dovedan came on a little later for Andreas Gruber. Dovedan had a chance to equalise in injury time, but his header missed the target. Austria had to admit defeat in the fourth duel of the season with the Styrians.
