1-3 defeat against the BYU Cougars

Coach Stefan Kenesei had to do without four players today with Jacqueline Hajek, Nadiia Kunina, Aldiana Amuchie and Sara Ito. The head coach of Austria Wien expected a "special test match against the footballers of Brigham Young University, which will certainly be physically demanding", as he emphasized before the match.

And so it came to pass: Both teams started with momentum, less than four minutes had passed before the Violets recorded their first shot attempt. Yvonne Weilharter, who was fit again, just missed the far corner (4th minute). The first minutes belonged to Austria Wien, another chance by Kristina Decker remained unused (8th), but then the Americans took the lead. A well-aimed shot landed in the far corner, goalkeeper Sophie Lindner was left with nothing (14th).

The team from Utah now seemed to be superior - and above all more efficient: After half an hour they increased the lead to 0-2 (30th). The match developed into an attractive and high-quality game; towards the end of the first half, Decker struck a dangerous cross into the penalty area, but the referee team ruled it offside (44th). With a two-goal deficit, it went into the break.

Volkmer follow-up goal was not enough

The Violets, who came out of the dressing room unchanged, conceded the third goal shortly after the restart (47th) after a scramble in the penalty area.

However, Austria did not hang its head and continued to play attractive football, Volkmer missed a good chance (52nd). The coaching team made a quadruple change in the 60th minute: Goalkeeper Nadine Hinterberger, Victoria Leitner, Vanessa Šabanović and Jasmin Biblekaj came into the game, the working day was over for Lindner, Lukić, Schneeberger and Wurzer.

Substitute Šabanović immediately found her first chance, but she did not hit the ball accurately enough and missed the goal by a wide margin (64th). Austria acted more aggressively and rewarded their fighting spirit with a goal: A cross from Weilharter came perfectly into the penalty area, Volkmer netted with his head and reduced the score to 1-3 (80.). A well-taken long shot by Anna Schorn was well saved by the keeper of the guests in the last minutes of the match.
