2:1 - preparation is finished undefeated

FK Austria Wien ended its preparation with another successful result. In the fifth match of the 2022 calendar year, the Violets also refueled their self-confidence and defeated SKN St. Pölten 2:1 (1:1).

After Mannswörth (21:0), TWL Elektra (8:3), FK Sotchi (0:0), FC Hradec Kralove (3:1), things also "clicked" against the second division team. And this despite the fact that coach Manfred Schmid had to substitute many players due to injury or illness.

The rest of the team handled the task very well in the Generali Arena, where a few hundred spectators made the pilgrimage. From the start there was fire in the game, many attacks were played over the wings, Mühl, Fischer (2x) and Jukic, among others, had very good scoring chances.

It rang in the 22nd minute. And how! Manfred Fischer scored with a long-range shot into the long corner of the cross. Although Gschweidl equalized immediately, Fischer and Jukic had further opportunities to regain the lead.

The lead was only restored in the final phase by substitute Dario Kreiker after a tap-in (78th), but it was well deserved. Markus Suttner and Eric Martel each failed just before the final whistle. With a better chance utilization a clearer result would have been loosely possible.

Coach Manfred Schmid: "St. Pölten was a good opponent, but especially in the first half we did very well. The team took the situation well, so I don't see a problem with many players missing at the moment. Let's wait and see what happens next week, but there will be no whining. We will now prepare well for Altach and go into the game fresh."

Austria played with: Pentz; Martins (72nd, Ivkic), Mühl, Handl (72nd, Schoissengeyr), Suttner; Braunöder (72nd, Demaku), Martel; Jukic (72nd, Teigl), Grünwald (46th, Wustinger), Fischer (72nd, Kreiker); Ohio (72nd, Vucic).

Goals: Fischer (22nd), Kreiker (78th) and Gschweidl (23rd).
