Michael Wimmer made only one change after the unfortunate defeat in Lustenau, captain Lukas Mühl started on the left in the three-man backline instead of Matan Baltaxa. Andreas Gruber was back in the match squad for the first time this year.
Hartberg suffered a defeat against Sturm in the previous week. Coach Markus Schopp changed his team in three positions: Patrick Farkas started in the four-man defence instead of Matija Horvat. Ex-Austrian Dominik Prokop made his debut for the Styrians. He and Ruben Providence replaced Lukas Fadinger and Rene Kriwak in the offensive.
A dominant Austria had the first chance to score after the first corner by Aleksandar Jukić. Haris Tabaković, however, put his header over the goal (7th). A nice action over several stations ended with Manuel Polster, whose cross was too inaccurate (14th). Polster won the ball in the 17th minute, but his finish from Tabaković's pass went just wide (17th). A long shot by Jukić went over Raphael Sallinger's box (21st). A pass from Polster to Manfred Fischer initiated the Veilchen's biggest chance, but unfortunately Nikola Dovedan could not put Fischer's Stanglpass into the goal (25th).
Hartberg had their first chance through Dominik Prokop, but Christian Früchtl remained the winner in the one-on-one duel (27th). On the other side, Manuel Polster went towards the penalty area after winning the ball from Dovedan and Haris Tabaković used his assist to give the Violets the lead; 1-0 in the 31st minute!
Früchtl had to be treated after a collision with Ruben Providence, but was able to continue for the time being. As heavy rain set in, a ball slipped through the keeper's fingers, but together with Lukas Mühl, the dangerous situation was defused (44th). Austria went into the dry dressing room with a 1-0 lead.
Christian Früchtl stayed in the dressing room with a suspected concussion, Mirko Kos made his second Bundesliga appearance. The 25-year-old keeper was not allowed any warm-up time, and after just eight seconds he had to stretch himself with a long-range shot by Prokop - an outstanding save. After a beautiful counter-attack via Fischer and Jukić, Reinhold Ranftl was felled by Jürgen Heil in the penalty area and referee Sebastian Gishamer immediately awarded a penalty. Haris Tabaković grabbed the ball and gave Sallinger no chance from the spot. 2-0 (57th). Only a few minutes later Manfred Fischer increased the lead to 3:0 after an ideal assist by Nikola Dovedan - the bag was closed (62nd).
Michael Wimmer brought on Doron Leidner and Matteo Meisl for Manuel Polster and Lukas Mühl 25 minutes before the end. In the 78th minute Andreas Gruber celebrated his comeback, he came on together with Can Keles for Fischer and Dovedan. Austria played the victory home with confidence, Kos kept his box clean with a save against Donis Avdijaj already in injury time. A deflected shot by Ranftl went just past the goal (90th+3), Sallinger parried a shot by Keles.
Austria deserved to win 3:0 against Hartberg after a good game.
