Even before kick-off, it was clear that the visitors from Austria were the favourites going into the match - and they lived up to this role over the course of the game. The first half began with a slight advantage for the Violets. The first dangerous move came as early as the 5th minute: A cross from Dominique Bruinenberg found Verena Volkmer, whose header just missed the goal. In the 13th minute, Stefanie Schneeberger had a shot from distance, but the opposing defence blocked the ball.

Although the Viennese dominated the game, the Swiss repeatedly managed to break through the momentum of the game with targeted counter-attacks. In the 21st minute, Austria were awarded a free-kick by new signing Maria Olsen, which was blocked. But just a few seconds later, the ball flew into the penalty area again, where Carina Wenninger was on hand to score after a failed save by the goalkeeper to make it 1-0.

Lead extended before the break

The Violets continued to press for the second goal. Lena Triendl had the chance to extend the lead, but the Swiss goalkeeper was able to reach the ball just before she could finish (26'). The first corner for Thun posed no danger and Austria quickly took control again (38'). Shortly before the break, Triendl increased the lead to 2-0 with a header (45'). The team went into the half-time break with a comfortable lead.

The picture changed slightly after the break. Both teams initially played in midfield, with Thun trying to find the back of the net. Triendl had another chance in the 52nd minute, but her shot went over the goal. Olsen's subsequent corner was safely intercepted by the goalkeeper.

In the 58th minute, the time had come: Olsen increased the lead to 3-0 when she scored after a beautiful assist from Katharina Schiechtl. Although the Swiss tried to counter, their offence never really got going. In the 64th minute, substitute Emily Schäfer had the chance to create danger again with a cross towards goal, but the goalkeeper was able to make a save. Schäfer was finally successful two minutes later and made it 4-0 (66')

In the 81st minute, Haidner made a superb save from a Swiss shot. Shortly before the final whistle, the hosts then scored the consolation goal to make it 1-4 (89'). All in all, it was a commanding performance from the Violets, who came away with a clear 4-1 victory against FC Rot-Schwarz Thun and lived up to their role as favourites.
