The eagerly awaited Vienna derby was on the programme in the ADMIRAL Women's Bundesliga championship group on Saturday. The visitors from Favoriten started the match highly motivated and full of pressure. They clearly dominated the game in the early stages and won several corners, but initially failed to score.

After around 15 minutes, Vienna got into the game better and increasingly managed to stabilise the encounter. In the 17th minute, Austria keeper Larissa Haidner had to intervene for the first time, making a strong save from a dangerous chance by the hosts.

Austria took a deserved lead after 20 minutes

In the 21st minute, Lena Triendl managed to win the ball in midfield and drive towards the Vienna goal. Yvonne Weilharter was unable to get her head to Triendl's shot, but the spell was broken just two minutes later: After a precise pass from Weilharter, Verena Volkmer headed the ball unstoppably into the net - 1-0 for Austria (23').

The Violets kept the pressure on. Just three minutes after taking the lead, Sara Pavlović increased the lead to 2-0 with a powerful long-range shot (26'). Vienna made an effort and came close to scoring time and again, but the Violet defence stood firm - and when necessary, Haidner was on hand, as in the 36th minute when the hosts had another chance.

Shortly before the break, Vienna tried to get back into the game by pressing more aggressively. But Austria were not impressed. On the contrary: In the 45th minute, Kathi Schiechtl took a free-kick and curled the ball straight into the goal - a remarkable goal to make it 3-0 at half-time.

Austria remain dominant - Vienna without luck

The Violets also retained the upper hand after the break. Anna Schorn missed a good opportunity in the 55th minute, her shot narrowly missing the goal. At the other end, Haidner continued to hold firm, while Vienna were dangerous on several occasions. The blue and yellow team had several opportunities, but all shots missed their target or were blocked.

The Violets kept the pressure on and were rewarded again: Olsen scored from the distance to make it 4-0 (72'). Just one minute later, Volkmer again took advantage of Vienna's goalkeeper moving too far forward and increased the score to 5-0 (73').

The Violets had further chances until the end - including through substitute Alisa Ziletkina in the 81st minute and Florentina Satra in the 89th minute - but in the end their concentration ran out and the score remained at five goals.

Violet demonstration of power in the derby

With a clear 5-0 victory, Austria set an exclamation mark in the Vienna derby and showed who is number one in the capital. The Violets impressed with a strong team performance, efficient finishing and a solid defence. Vienna is therefore purple!
