Compared to recent matches, there were a few changes to the Violets’ starting line-up. In goal this time was not first-choice goalkeeper Jasmin Pal, but 20-year-old Emma Goetz, who supported her team with several confident saves.
The visitors from southern Burgenland made a bold start to the match. As early as the 4th minute, Goetz was called into action from a free-kick and made a confident save. Shortly afterwards, the Violets had their first go on the attack: however, a long-range shot from Lotta Cordes (8th) and a header from a corner by Almedina Šišić (10th) both missed the target. Yvonna Weilharter (13th) also tested the visitors’ defence before Louise Schöffel had the first big chance in the 14th minute. She ran almost unmarked towards goal, but her finish was too weak and was saved.
In the 21st minute, the deserved opening goal finally arrived: following a corner, Katharina Schiechtl flicked the ball on with her head – and it ended up in the net to make it 1-0. The visitors remained a threat from set pieces, however. Goetz managed to tip a corner wide in the 26th minute, though the ball would have gone wide of the goal anyway. Things got dicey again in the 33rd minute when another corner from the South Burgenland side sailed just over the bar.
Austria, however, kept up the pressure. Lena Triendl tried her luck in the 35th minute after a run down the wing, but narrowly missed the target. Shortly before half-time, Schiechtl had a chance to score her second, but her header from another corner went wide this time. The teams went into the break with a narrow 1-0 lead.
After the break, the Violets stepped up the pressure. Schöffel delivered a dangerous cross into the penalty area in the 50th minute, but the resulting corner from Elisa Pfattner came to nothing. Shortly afterwards, another cross from Triendl was deflected. In the 56th minute, Austria responded with substitutions: Tatjana Weiss came on for Stefanie Schneeberger, and Modesta Uka replaced Courtney Strode.
This was followed by a spell of numerous corners for the Viennese. The visitors defended passionately and cleared the ball several times in the nick of time – including after a header from Schiechtl and follow-up shots from Cordes in the 65th minute.
In the 68th minute, the Veilchen finally extended their lead: following a pass from Triendl, Šišić made it 2-0. Austria remained in control. In the 74th minute, Cordes was denied by the goalkeeper, but just a minute later the Veilchen were celebrating again: captain Carina Wenninger pushed the ball over the line from a corner – 3-0.
The visitors didn’t give up – a shot from Uka was saved in the 83rd minute – but Austria added to their tally in stoppage time. Following a corner, Weiss scored in the 91st minute to make it 4–0. Schiechtl finally put the icing on the cake, scoring her second goal of the evening in the last minute of stoppage time to seal the 5–0 final score.
