Austria lost 0:2 against Red Bull Salzburg with goals from Amankwah Forson and Karim Konate in the second half. While Christian Früchtl was able to prevent further goals, especially at the beginning, the Violets were unfortunately too harmless offensively on this day.

Michael Wimmer had to do without Marvin Martins and Tin Plavotić in defence. Johannes Handl and Matteo Meisl moved into the starting eleven. Reinhold Ranftl got a well-deserved rest, Marvin Potzmann started on the right side. Captain Manfred Fischer returned to the team, Matthias Braunöder took a seat on the bench for the time being.
Red Bull Salzburg won 3-0 against WSG Tirol under Gerhard Struber the previous week. The new coach made only one change, with German U19 international Leandro Morgalla making his starting debut on the left side of defence in place of the injured Aleksa Terzić.
At the beginning of the game Christian Früchtl was in demand, in two 1-on-1 duels with Roko Šimić the 23-year-old goalkeeper remained the winner (6th, 9th). Andreas Gruber scored in the 10th minute, but was offside. Red Bull Salzburg had to change early, Samson Baidoo replaced the injured Oumar Solet (19th). After a corner by Amar Dedić, Strahinja Pavlović headed over the goal (23rd). Früchtl had little trouble with a long-range shot from Amankwah Forson, while Dedić's deflected shot hit the crossbar for our number one (34th, 37th). In injury time, Karim Konate and Samson Baidoo headed over the goal. The Veilchen struggled offensively and the game went into the break goalless.
For the second half Reinhold Ranftl came in for Marvin Potzmann, Matthias Braunöder replaced James Holland. The first chance this time was for the Violets, but Andi Gruber was a step too late on a Muki Husković cross (48th). The first goal, however, was scored by the home side, Amankwah Forson scoring on a pass from Mads Bidstrup (55th) to make it 1-0.
Immediately afterwards Michi Wimmer made another double substitution: Silva and Aleksandar Jukić were to provide new offensive power instead of Fitz and Husković. However, this was only partially successful at first, and things got rather dicey in Austria's penalty area. Referee Christian-Petru Ciochirca took back a whistled penalty after a video review (71st), Šimić put a header over (81st). Matan Baltaxa came on for the injured Lucas Galvão. Salzburg scored in the 90th, in the 95th and in the 99th minute, each goal had to be reviewed by VAR due to very close offsides. Only the last goal was legal, Karim Konate scored the 2-0 final score for the reigning champions.
