Austria eliminated against Breidablik

Breidablik took a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals from Kristinn Steindórsson and Árni Vilhjálmsson, and Dominik Fitz's follow-up goal was not enough. Austria was eliminated from the UEFA Europa Conference League with an aggregate score of 2:3.

Manfred Schmid gave his team a more attacking lineup in the second leg and dispensed with the second defensive midfielder. Benedikt Pichler and Aleksandar Jukić were new in the starting eleven compared to the first leg. Lukas Mühl made his international debut for Austria, Georg Teigl started on the right in the back four.

Breiðablik coach Óskar Hrafn Þorvaldsson saw no reason for a change in the team lineup after the 1-1 draw in the first leg. In the championship, Breiðablik lost 2-0 at Keflavík ÍF on Sunday.

Two goals conceded in first half

Austria had the first chance to score through Dominik Fitz (4th) after Benedikt Pichler's preparation, but it was Breiðablik who took the lead. Höskuldur Gunnlaugsson crossed to Kristinn Steindórsson and it was 1:0 (6th). After a corner kick Gunnlaugsson put in another good cross, Damir Muminović headed the ball over (11th). The Violets came through Georg Teigl, but his cross was blocked (16.). After a cross from Markus Suttner, Pichler tried a bicycle kick, but missed the goal (24.).

After a ball loss in midfield, Breiðablik again got in front of goal relatively easily and Árni Vilhjálmsson scored after Steindórsson's Stanglpass to make it 2-0 (24.). A free kick from Gunnlaugsson went over the goal (36th), there was very little to see from Austria offensively in the first half. Free kicks by Dominik Fitz and Markus Suttner reached Lukas Mühl and Manfred Fischer, but both headers remained harmless (42nd, 45th). With 0:2 it went into the cabin.

Connecting goal not enough

The Viennese started the second half better, a free kick by Aleksandar Jukić was parried by goalkeeper Anton Ari Einarsson (51st). Jukić's header from Georg Teigl's cross was too weak, and Markus Suttner saved from two Icelanders on the counterattack (53rd). Manfred Schmid then brought on Alexander Grünwald for Jukić. After a corner kick by Dominik Fitz, Marco Djuričin put a header next to the goal (56.). Benedikt Pichler had two goals, but they did not find their way into the net (62nd, 64th). Breiðablik helped Austria, after a terrible miss pass from Viktor Örn Margeirsson Dominik Fitz scored the equalizer - the game was open again (68th).

Djuričin put a header wide (71st) before Alexander Grünwald had a great chance to equalize in the 75th. Dominik Fitz set up the playmaker ideally, but a defender tucked the ball out of bounds at the last moment. A free kick by Fitz went past friend and foe - and unfortunately also a hair's breadth past the goal (82nd). Can Keles came on in injury time for Benedikt Pichler. A last shot by Georg Teigl went over the goal (90.+6). Austria unfortunately said goodbye to the European Cup early.
