Austria Wien enter the Cup final!

The Violet women are still in top form: In the Cup semi-final, the Violets turned a setback into a 2-1 away win against Altach/Vorderland. This is the first time Austria Wien has reached the final of the Sportland Niederösterreich Women's Cup as an independent club. Our opponents there will be SKN St. Pölten on May 9 in Wiener Neustadt.

The second Cup semi-final against SPG Altach/Vorderland was on the agenda on Saturday. Austria started with two changes to the starting line-up compared to the Bundesliga win against Wacker Innsbruck: Louise Schöffel and Lea Mauly were on the pitch from the start, while Alisa Ziletkina and Antea Batarilo were on the bench for the time being.

The Violets wanted to add to the 25 goals they had already scored in the cup on that matchday - and this aim was quickly recognized on the pitch. Coach Stefan Kenesei's team were highly motivated, but the first shot on goal belonged to the home team; Larissa Haidner was on hand (6').

First time trailing in the cup

Then the Vorarlberg team were celebrating as Anna Bereuter put Altach in front. After a cross, she got to the ball before Florentina Satra and headed in to make it 1-0 (21'). This was the first time Austria had trailed in this Cup season.

The Violet women did not bury their heads in the sand and Verena Volkmer had a chance to equalize. However, the referees ruled the ball offside. Dominique Bruinenberg tried her luck from distance, but her attempt was too central (26'). The Violets remained determined and wanted the equalizer. Jacqueline Hajek was the next to have the chance to make it 1-1. After a cross, she missed the ball by a hair's breadth (30'). The ball just did not (yet) want to go into the goal, Volkmer with the chance again (36').

Altach were dangerous again shortly before the end of the first half; Haidner made a strong save from a free-kick (45').

Violets turn the game around

Both teams returned from the break without making any changes. However, the goal that had been a long time coming in the first half finally arrived: After a long ball, Lena Triendl was on the run, her pass to Verena Volkmer was deflected into the goal, but the goal was credited to Triendl. The equalizer to make it 1-1 (48')!

A hard-fought game developed in which both teams gave each other little. Altach/Vorderland then became stronger and were more dangerous in Austria's half. However, the Violets were once again able to celebrate: After a shot by Yvonne Weilharter, Kofler deflected the ball unstoppably into her own goal when attempting to clear (75') to make it 2:1!

The game became more hectic, Altach/Vorderland wanted the equalizer, but Austria stood compact, allowed little danger and kept the lead over time.

With a 2-1 win, Austria Vienna advance to the Cup final for the first time as an independent team - in 2019, they did so as a joint team with USC Landhaus. The match will be played on 9 May at 2 p.m. in Wiener Neustadt against SKN St. Pölten, who beat Vienna 1-0 after extra time in the semi-final.
