Austria Wien commemorates the victims of the Holocaust

January 27 is the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. 2022 marks the 77th anniversary of the day on which the concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated by the Red Army. Because it must never happen again. Because we must not forget. #WeRemember

Looking into the past is important, setting a sign in the present even more so. FK Austria Wien is doing just that and today is participating in the worldwide #WeRemember campaign of the World Jewish Congress.

Six million European Jews were murdered in the Holocaust. We have a duty, not least to the victims and their relatives, to remember and admonish them. Not only today.

Because it must never happen again.

Because we must not forget.

Austria Wien suffered particularly after the annexation of Austria to National Socialist Germany under Adolf Hitler. Austria President Emanuel "Michl" Schwarz had to leave the country immediately, and countless players and officials also fled. On March 17, 1938, the club's temporary ban was announced, and a little later Austria was renamed SC Ostmark.
