After an early lead by Klagenfurt, our Violets fight their way back into the game and get a well-deserved equalizer through Marco Djuricin. We remain third in the table.
Before kickoff, the Generali Arena commemorated Veilchen legend Alfons Dirnberger, who won four titles with Austria and recently passed away at the age of 80.
The 11,393 spectators saw a lively match at the start, in which Austria Wien almost took an early lead. After Suttner's cross, Eric Martel headed just inches past the far corner. Shortly after, Fischer was prevented by Gkezos from going through and was felled in a promising position, for which the Klagenfurt player saw yellow.
In the 11th minute, Matthias Braunöder was able to break through on the left, but failed to beat the Klagenfurt goalkeeper from an acute angle. Pacult's team did not hide either, and in the 16th minute Lucas Galvao saved from Pink, who was ready to shoot. Although the Veilchen had more of the game until then, Klagenfurt took the lead in the 28th minute: After a deflected ball, Florian Jaritz scored from close range, Patrick Pentz was powerless.
Manfred Schmid's team did not let itself down. Marco Djuricin tried it with his right foot from the sixteen, the shot was defused by Menzel. The Violets then cut their teeth on the Carinthians' compact defense. Shortly before the break, a free kick by Aleksandar Jukic first landed in the wall, Menzel held the follow-up shot.
After the break, Grünwald made way for Can Keles, who immediately created a lot of steam on the right. Fischer lacked a few centimeters after Keles' cross. In the 63rd minute, Djuricin hit the outside of the net after a pass from Suttner, and shortly afterwards Menzel saved at the highest level. Just one minute later, there was a penalty alert after a Klagenfurt player got a hand on the ball. Referee Gishamer decided against it after consulting the VAR.
In the 67th minute it was finally time! Jukic cleverly put the ball back into the five. The ball landed in a roundabout way at the feet of Djuricin, who slotted the ball into the net for a deserved equalizer. The Violets continued to press, but were too imprecise and could not break down the Klagenfurt defense.
