Austria Wien legend Hans Pirkner passed away peacefully on Wednesday shortly before his 79th birthday.

As part of the famous ‘Hundred-year attack’, together with Thomas Parits and Julio Morales, he played a key role in the success story of the Violets in the 1970s. Between 1974 and 1978, Pirkner played 164 games for Austria, scoring 76 goals and making a decisive contribution to two league titles and a cup win. He was also part of the team that reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1978.

His passion and commitment on the pitch made him an indispensable part of our team and a role model for future generations. The Austria family will always keep Hans Pirkner in honourable memory.
