Austria Wien signs striker Nik Prelec

Nik Prelec joins Austria Vienna from Serie A club Cagliari Calcio on a one-year loan with an option to buy. The 23-year-old attacker already played on loan in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga in the previous season and scored eight goals and provided five assists in 32 games for WSG Tirol.

Nik Prelec: "I've known Austria Wien for a long time, as I was already in talks about coming here at the age of 16 - back then we decided to go to Italy. I gained very good impressions of the club: Now in the talks with the people in charge, but also before that as an opponent with WSG Tirol, the atmosphere of the Austria fans in the stadium was always exceptional. I want to help the team and score as many goals as possible."

Sporting Director Manuel Ortlechner: "Nik Prelec is a classic centre-forward who has proven his quality at WSG Tirol. He brings an additional facet to our attacking play and we are convinced that he will strengthen us. If he makes the impact we hope he will, we have secured the opportunity to tie him to Austria on a permanent basis."

The former Slovenia U21 team player first moved to Austria from Sampdoria in the summer of 2022 and played a strong autumn season at WSG Tirol straight away, after which he moved back to Italy to Cagliari in Serie A six months later in the winter. He was loaned back to Tirol in the summer of 2023.
