From the outset, Austria showed that they had no intention of hiding away in St. Pölten. After just three minutes, the first purple corner came dangerously close to the opposition goal, but Kathi Schiechtl's header went just wide. The hosts also immediately sought to push forward, but were equally unable to capitalise on their set pieces. In an intense opening phase, both teams had chances to score, but the goalkeepers were equal to the task.

Chances at both ends, but no goals before the break

The Violets gradually created more set pieces. Free kicks from Elisa Pfattner (17', 34', 39') caused danger. But the SKN goalkeeper kept her team in the game. At the other end, Jasmin Pal was called into action for the first time in the Austria goal when St. Pölten threatened with a low free kick (37'). Shortly before half-time, the Austria defence cleared several times, so the teams went into the break goalless.

Triendl breaks the deadlock

After the break, the Violets immediately sought to seal the deal. Tatjana Weiss (56') missed, before Lena Triendl scored the opening goal for the Violets in the 61st minute with a sharp finish. Austria continued to press: Pfattner and Triendl had chances to extend the lead, but narrowly failed.

SKN increases the pressure – Austria holds firm

In the final stages, the Wolves pushed for the equaliser. They repeatedly tried to break through the Violets' defence, but Virginia Kirchberger, Carina Wenninger, Kathi Schiechtl and goalkeeper Pal withstood the pressure. In stoppage time, the Violets had their last big chance when Julia Kappenberger found herself alone in front of the opposition goal. Fans and players alike thought the ball was almost in the net, but Kappenberger's shot was too sharp and ended up going wide.

A first for the Violets

After 90 intense minutes, the historic away win was confirmed: Austria Vienna won 1-0 in St. Pölten, making club history. For the first time, the Violets achieved a resounding victory against the serial champions. Now five points clear at the top of the table, the Viennese women have made a clear statement in the championship.
