Despite a strong performance, Austria suffered a 1-2 defeat at LASK in Linz. An own goal by Moudou Cissé gave the Violets an early lead, but LASK managed to equalise through Samuel Adeniran before half-time. After the break, the Violets had countless chances to score another goal, but LASK was awarded a penalty after a VAR check. Moses Usor scored from the spot to make it 2-1. Tin Plavotić's supposed equaliser in injury time was disallowed due to offside.

After being knocked out of the Europa League, Austria continued in the league. Coach Stephan Helm made only one change, with Taeseok Lee making his starting debut and starting on the left wing in place of Hakim Guenouche. Aleksandar Dragović was still out with injury.
LASK had also failed to get off to the desired start to the season. LASK coach João Sacramento made three changes to his starting line-up: Moudou Cissé, Valon Berisha and Maximilian Entrup replaced Melayro Bogarde, Lukas Kacavenda and Christoph Lang in the starting line-up. Entrup was to provide more attacking power alongside strike partner Samuel Adeniran as the second striker.
LASK had the first minor chance to score in the first minute through Maximilian Entrup, but then it was the Violets' turn. On his 25th birthday, Maurice Malone caused problems for Lukas Jungwirth in the Linz goal with a well-placed shot to the far corner (4'). After Johannes Eggestein won the ball at the halfway line, Dominik Fitz brought it into the middle, and although Moudou Cissé saved from the onrushing Malone, he unfortunately slid the ball into his own goal - 0-1 (6').
A cross from Reinhold Ranftl reached Taeseok Lee, whose powerful header went just over the bar (11'). LASK scored in the 22nd minute through Entrup, but the striker was clearly offside. However, the Upper Austrians grew stronger, with Samuel Şahin-Radlinger distinguishing himself with saves from Andrés Andrade and Max Entrup (25'). A header from Entrup went wide (26'). As the Viennese tried to regain control with chances from Tin Plavotić and Johannes Eggestein (29', 33'), LASK managed to equalise. Moses Usor crossed to Samuel Adeniran after a quick counterattack, who headed the ball into the net to make it 1-1 (34').
A handball by Eggestein in the penalty area was not deemed punishable by the referees, and an evenly matched game went into the break at 1-1.
The second half began spectacularly. Abubakr Barry shot just wide of the goal after a dream pass from Fitz (47'). At the other end, Şahin-Radlinger made a superb save to tip a header from Adeniran off the line with the help of the crossbar (48'), and Barry was stopped at the last moment by Cissé on the counterattack (49'). A clear foul on Barry in the penalty area went unpunished, and Jungwirth saved a shot from Fitz (51'). The LASK goalkeeper remained in the spotlight, preventing the Violets from taking a well-deserved lead with great saves against Eggestein and Malone (52').
19-year-old Dejan Radonjić made his Bundesliga debut, while Kang Hee Lee had to leave the field injured. A curling shot from Fitz went wide of the goal, and Malone also missed the goal by millimetres after a cross from Ranftl (60th, 63rd). Samuel Şahin-Radlinger was not surprised by a shot from Entrup to the near post (64th). In the 67th minute, Ranftl hit Jørgensen on the leg, and referee Alexander Harkam awarded LASK a penalty after an on-field review. Moses Usor scored to give the home side a 2-1 lead (69').
Stephan Helm then made three substitutions: Luca Pazourek, Noah Botić and Manprit Sarkaria came on for Ranftl, Malone and Eggestein. Dominik Fitz had a great chance to equalise from the edge of the penalty area, but shot wide (81'). Sanel Šaljić replaced Manfred Fischer, and Jungwirth once again saved a header from Radonjić following a free kick from Fitz (83'). Andrade threw himself in front of a shot from Dominik Fitz (90+2'), and Tin Plavotić scored what would have been the equaliser in the 99th minute, but it was disallowed due to a previous offside.
Austria lost 2-1 to LASK in an exciting match.
