Bitter home defeat against Klagenfurt

Austria Klagenfurt took the lead shortly after the break with a goal from Kosmas Gkezos, Andreas Gruber equalized a little later to make it 1-1. A penalty in the 90th minute - again by Gkezos - sealed the bitter 1-2 home defeat for the Veilchen.

With Haris Tabaković and Dominik Fitz suspended, coach Michael Wimmer had to do without 25 scorers. However, Aleksandar Jukić and Nikola Dovedan were excellent alternatives. Otherwise, the starting eleven remained unchanged from the derby in Hütteldorf.

Austria Klagenfurt lost 0-2 against SK Sturm the previous week, and coach Peter Pacult made one change to his lineup: Christopher Wernitznig started instead of Vesel Demaku.

Austria Wien superior, but still no goal

In the first action of the match, the two new players took center stage: after a corner by Aleksandar Jukić, Nikola Dovedan headed against the crossbar (2nd). On the other side, Klagenfurt also became dangerous after a corner kick. Kosmas Gkezos put the ball just beside the goal (7th). Dovedan missed a cross from Reinhold Ranftl by a few centimeters (8th). Christian Früchtl saved a shot from Andy Irving (17th) - the game swung back and forth.

Another shot by Irving went past the far corner, a shot by Andreas Gruber was saved by Phillip Menzel in the Carinthian goal (20th, 26th). Unfortunately, a goal by Jukić did not count due to an offside position, and Menzel was able to save another shot by our number 77 (27th, 30th). After a pass from Dovedan, Jukić shot at goal again, but this time he missed (35.). A minute later it was Aleksander Jukić again who had a chance after a bad back pass from Klagenfurt. Menzel just fended off the ball for a corner. Manfred Fischer took the ball directly - it was held (37th).

Until the break no goal should succeed, it stood 0-0.

Penalty in the 90th minute sealed Austria's defeat

Both teams came out of the dressing rooms unchanged, and Klagenfurt scored the opening goal immediately after the restart. After a corner kick by Wernitznig, Gkezos headed the ball into the net for 0-1 (48th). The Violets did not let that sit for long. After a wonderful assist from Nikola Dovedan, Andreas Gruber made it 1-1 in the 52nd minute.

The violets kept the pressure on: Dovedan could not take advantage of a mistake by Menzel, a deflected cross by Gruber landed on goal (60th, 63rd). Matthias Braunöder hit the bar with a shot from the edge of the penalty area (64th).

Michael Wimmer then made three changes: James Holland, Can Keles and Romeo Vučić came on for Braunöder, Jukić and Dovedan. Shortly before the end, Georg Teigl replaced scorer Andreas Gruber. Scoring chances remained rather scarce towards the end. In the 90th minute, referee Stefan Ebner decided on a penalty kick for Klagenfurt after an on-field review. Kosmas Gkezos converted for the win.

After a corner by Keles, Nicolas Wimmer put his own goalkeeper in trouble, but he was able to turn the ball over the crossbar (90th+3). The Violets suffered a bitter defeat against their namesake from Carinthia.
