Nikola Dovedan signs a contract with Austria Wien until the summer of 2023. The 28-year-old flexible offensive player was a regular player for 1. FC Nürnberg in the 2nd German Bundesliga last season. The Violette homegrown player is now returning to the club he has taken to his heart since his youth.
In 2006, at the age of twelve, Dovedan moved from Tulln to Vienna-Favoriten, and the following four years in Austria's youth programme left a lasting impression on him: "Joining Austria back then was, next to my wife, my best decision to date. Since then, Austria has always been my club. I only associate Austria with nice things and still have many friends from that time. At that time, Austria gave me the chance to even think about a professional career," said the 28-year-old.
Nikola Dovedan already knows many of his new teammates at the Veilchen very well and played with some of them: two years with Lukas Mühl, one with Christian Früchtl at Nuremberg, with Lucas Galvão at Altach, Andreas Gruber in the national team and Reinhold Ranftl at LASK. But that's not the only reason why the return to the distribution circle is particularly easy for him:
"I was a ball boy at the Horrstadion when Blanchard and Acimovic were still playing, Milenko was the best player for me. I have also watched many Austria games in recent years, was at the season finale against Sturm and also in July against LASK in the stadium. I like being here, I just feel comfortable, like at home," Nikola Dovedan tells us.
Sporting director Manuel Ortlechner: "We are happy that we were able to sign a very exciting player in Nikola Dovedan. He is a declared Austrian and has chosen us despite several offers. We still saw a need at the striker position. He is a playmaking striker who is very capable of scoring goals."
