Fitz: “I have been a ‘Violet’ since my childhood”

The 18-year-old Viennese Dominik Fitz came to his first three Bundesliga appearances under head coach Thomas Letsch. The violet junior player, who has been wearing the Austria Wien jersey for eleven years now, is optimistic about the game against LASK and has great ambitions: "I want to become a regular player as fast as possible."

Fitz has certainly imagined his derby debut as a professional player differently, when he came in during the 54th minute last Sunday. The youngster looks forward to the game against LASK much more (Saturday, 4:30 PM, TGW-Arena in Pasching).

“We have to bring home points on Saturday. Of course, the 0-4 in the derby was hard, especially because we have performed so well in the games before,” says Fitz. As in Graz, where the ‘Violets’ celebrated their first away victory under Thomas Letsch against the second-placed SK Sturm Graz. It was Fitz’ starting line-up debut, he played until the 57th minute and then made room for Christoph Monschein.

“We have to make points in every round now”

“Every game will be difficult for us because we have to score points in each round,” he says before the game in the TGW Arena in Pasching and remembers that the series champion RB Salzburg was defeated there two weeks ago. It was RB Salzburg’s first defeat in the national championship after 22 laps. Austria Wien went home with a 2-2 after the last game in the TGW-Arena.

The fifth place in the standings, which FC Admira currently occupies, and which is eligible for European Cup participation, if Mattersburg does not win the Cup, is seven points away with six games to go. After LASK, SV Mattersburg (28.4. /4 PM) and Admira (5.5. /6:30 PM) are waiting for the ‘Violets’ in the Happel-Stadium.

Raphael Holzhauser and Tarkan Serbest return for the game against LASK after their suspensions. “In the Derby you could see that we were not as compact as we usually are. Tarkan and Rapha are very important players,” says Fitz.

“I have been a ‘Violet’ since my childhood!”

The 21-time ÖFB junior team player (U16 to U19), who reached the quarter-finals in the U17 European Championship finals in Azerbaijan in 2016, had a special "sense of achievement" before the derby with his contract extension until 2023. "I am very proud, because I have been a “Violet” since I was very young", emphasizes our man with the number 36 on his jersey, who came to the Austria Wien in the summer of 2006 from SV Langenzersdorf and belongs to the professional team since January 2018.

Fitz, whose role model is Cristiano Ronaldo, is very flexible in the offensive area, but feels most comfortable as the game maker. He proved that in his league debut on March 31st, 2018 in the 2-1 home victory against SCR Altach.

After Letsch brought him into the game in the 73rd minute for Monschein and allowed him to play on his ‘favourite position’. “As an offensive midfielder he was doing a great job where we had problems to get the ball,” said Thomas Letsch about Fitz.

“Wants to be a regular player”

The young man with great potential has shown not only ability, but also ambition in his first three professional appearances. “I want to become a regular player as fast as possible,” he says, adding that finishes and passes are his strengths.

He must improve “physically and his defensive work”. The Viennese, who came to the ‘Violets’ as a seven-year-old and was a regular player in our second team as a 16-year-old, counts 16 games, seven goals and eight assists with the young ‘Violets’ in the ‘Regionalliga Ost’. Since March 2016, he played a total of 50 ‘Ostliga’ games (16/16).
