Austria Wien has to settle for a 1-1 draw at home against WSG Tirol in the 2nd round. Marco Djuricin scores the highly deserved equalizer for Violett in the second half.
Manfred Schmid changed his team in three positions compared to the European Cup match in Iceland. Vesel Demaku, Alex Grünwald and Leonardo Ivkic played instead of Aleksandar Jukic, Marco Djuricin and Georg Teigl. The 18-year-old Ivkic made his Bundesliga debut as a right-back.
Austria Wien created a clear plus of chances in the opening phase. Benedikt Pichler shot just over after a Manfred Fischer pass (5th), Dominik Fitz tried it from about 20 meters (9th). Alex Grünwald missed a cross from Fitz only by centimeters (17.).
Schoissengeyr got a header from a corner kick and a cross from Grünwald while standing alone on the five-yard line, but his finish was too central (21.). Thanos Petsos (36th) had the first top chance for the guests from Tyrol, but he missed alone in front of goalkeeper Patrick Pentz.
After a Grünwald pass and an intersection with WSG goalkeeper Oswald, Manfred Fischer was supposedly alone on the empty goal, but referee Kijas called a foul on the Austrian (41st). Shortly before the break, WSG Tirol was awarded a penalty by VAR decision, the referee team ruled Ivkic's handball. Giacomo Vrioni (45+2) converted to make the score 0:1 at the break.
After the break, Austria was unlucky, Alex Grünwald hit the bar (55th) after a slant pass from Pichler. A few minutes earlier, Fitz, ready to shoot, was brought down in a duel in the penalty area, but the referee allowed play to continue. A shot by Dominik Fitz (66th) from 20 meters just missed the target.
Austria kept the pressure on and was again unlucky: Manfred Fischer hit the bar (71st), Aleksandar Jukic failed from an acute angle (72nd), substitute Marco Djuricin narrowly missed a Stanglpass (73rd). A Djuricin goal was disallowed for offside (78th). A header by substitute Keles hit the outer net (79th). In the 80th minute, it was finally time: Marco Djuricin went up and scored with full effort for the highly deserved 1:1 equalizer.
The Violets pressed on until the end of the six-minute injury time, but the winning goal was not to be scored.
