Austria Vienna and Katharina Schiechtl have extended their contract. The 72-time international was an absolute regular and leading player for the Violets last season and will continue to play this role in the future.
"Austria has ambitious goals that I can identify with. The conditions are right and I feel very comfortable here. I'm looking forward to continuing to be part of the project and passing on my experience", says Katharina Schiechtl, who is currently preparing for the Iceland double in the European Championship qualifiers with the ÖFB team.
The 31-year-old defensive player made her competitive debut for the Violets on September 9, 2023 in the first round of the Cup and then played all 16 remaining matches in the ADMIRAL Women's Bundesliga as well as the four matches up to the final of the SPORTLAND Niederösterreich Women's Cup over the full distance.
Schiechtl has made 72 appearances for the Austrian national team to date, including the record match between Austria and France on September 26, 2023 at Viola Park in front of 10,051 fans.
Lisa Makas, sporting director: "We are very pleased and happy to have Kathi with us in the future. She's an absolute role model for our youngest players in particular. With her great experience and footballing quality, she is a huge asset to the entire team both on and off the pitch."
