From the outset, it was an evenly matched game in which both teams tried to take control but initially failed to create any compelling attacking opportunities. Sturm had the first shot on goal in the 6th minute, but the ball missed the target. As the game progressed, the hosts pushed Austria deeper and deeper into their own half, with a promising shot from the Graz team narrowly missing the goal in the 15th minute.
Austria struggled to get forward for a long time. It took Carina Wenninger a good 20 minutes to get a shot on goal, but without success. Various set pieces on both sides also failed to yield anything. Sturm remained the more active team until the break, while Austria made occasional forays forward through Maria Agerholm and Louise Schöffel. Nevertheless, the score remained 0-0 at half-time.
After the break, the picture hardly changed: both teams tried to create danger with free kicks and crosses, but either they lacked precision or the goalkeepers were on hand. However, the substitutions of Almedina Šišić, Sara Pavlović and Anna Schorn in the 64th minute brought more dynamism to the Violets' play. Yvonne Weilharter and Maria Agerholm in particular had good opportunities during this phase, but were thwarted by the strong defence of the Graz team.
Austria was the more active team in the final quarter of an hour. However, several corner kicks and shots, including those by Šišić and Agerholm, went unused. Sturm defended passionately and seemed to have secured the point.
But in stoppage time, the decisive moment came: after a cross from Schorn to Julia Kappenberger, the Sturm goalkeeper narrowly prevented the lead. Seconds later, however, Šišić broke through, took heart and shot the ball precisely into the net (90+3'). The Graz goalkeeper was unable to prevent the goal – 0-1 in the last minute.
Austria took three points from Graz and celebrated a hard-fought victory that puts them at the top of the table.
